Amazon.co.uk Review

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' 1981 resurrection of the Saturday-matinee adventure genre was deservedly popular, and kicked off a successful trilogy. Set in 1936, this first feature introduces Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, an archaeologist and adventurer whose quests for rare antiquities frequently find him running from one menace or another. Raiders finds Dr Jones in the middle of a Nazi plot to use the mysterious powers of the Ark of the Covenant to win the war. Karen Allen plays the love interest with an old-fashioned "man's woman" appeal (she can drink anybody under the table and is free with her fists). The constant, cliff-hanger appeal of the movie is great fun--one is always wondering how Indy will get out of one scrape after another--and Ford's career got a big boost with his self-effacing but masculine portrayal of the hero. --Tom Keogh

See it again!!! 28 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
"Raiders" is the first and best of the Indiana Jones movies.

I have a hard time believing that anyone hasn't seen this movie so I'll skip the plot and go straight for the main reason you should watch it again. The transfer to DVD is absolutely stunning, probably the most impressive clean up I've ever seen. It really looks as though it could've been filmed yesterday.

The sound has been given a nice makeover as well. Forever a classic, this movie can't be seen too many times.

What a splendid intro to the trilogy. When this came out I was just a wee nipper but soon discovered that it wasn't just myself and other kids caught up in the fantasy. It's actually a sequel to Temple of doom set during the 2nd world war. Scary military police are on his trail even to Nepal, across to Eygypt culminating in a freaky scene where they open the ark of the covenant (I wont say whats in it).

Indiana Jones is the epitimy of adventure films. Raiders of the Lost Ark is without a doubt the best adventure film ever made. It has action, suspense and romance. The only other adventure to rival Raiders is Bond who does not come close to being the adventure of Raiders. The only films to near Raiders level of adventure are Temple of Doom, and Last Crusade. I recommend Raiders of the lost ark to any adventure fan.

Love letter to the Cinema serials
Lucas and Spielbergs homage is broad. Harrison Ford iconic as Indiana Jones. The script drips with dastardly Germans, oily French and stalwart Americans. Read more

Brilliant adventure
Raiders of the Lost Ark is quite simply the best adventure movie ever made. To properly explain why, I'll need to go back in time for a bit of a history lesson. Read more
