Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
His parents may have named the dog Indiana, but for millions of fans there's no better name associated with adventure than the moniker Dr. Jones took for himself. For Indy fans, the follow-up to a 1992 Indiana Jones adventure game has been a long wait, but trust us--it was worth it.

A solid 3-D third-person role-playing game, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine was built on Lucas Arts' own Jedi Knight engine, putting an entirely new spin on the series formula.

While his lady friends throughout the years may have considered Indiana himself "infernal", the title actually refers to a Babylonian device that has fallen into the wrong hands. In the past, Indy took on monstrous Nazi officers, now he's working with the CIA to capture the machine before it falls into the hands of Soviet agents. This fight takes players through scores of wonderfully rendered scenes, both underground and above the ground.

There are some drawbacks, of course (and we're not talking about its similarity to a certain other tomb-raiding game). The primary fault is that it's single-player only, so don't plan any KGB-versus-Dr. Jones death matches. But the famous Indy wit and attitude goes a long way towards making up for that flaw. Also, Infernal Machine is easy to jump into and simple to play--unlike other games that require memorising key assignments before even beginning.

A much-anticipated title, Infernal Machine--like the globetrotting, dust-covered, nick-of-time treasure hunter himself--delivers the goods --Stuart Miles

Manufacturer's Description
Indy is back in Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, a real-time 3-D action-adventure. Fraught with all the action and intrigue worthy of a classic Indiana Jones film, the game will lock players in a thrilling race around the globe to thwart the Soviets' frantic search for clues to the mysterious Infernal Machine. Staying one step ahead of the Russians will require players to solve a variety of challenging mechanical puzzles. Interior sites such as temples, tombs and dungeons are incredibly expansive and allow for thorough exploration, puzzle solving and intense combat. The game's unique geographical locations also serve as settings for several special action sequences that range from guiding a raft through an exciting descent of white-water rapids to a spectacular off-road Jeep chase through the jungle to an exhilarating roller coaster-like mine car ride. Indy has the ability to whip, crawl, run, leap, swim, swing and climb through each level.

4.0 out of 5 stars While we're waiting for the fourth Indiana Jones film..., 12 Dec 2000
By A Customer
It's 1947, the Nazis are defeated, while the Cold War is in force. Eleven years ago, Indiana Jones found the Lost Ark of the Covenant. Since then, he has travelled almost every corner of the world obtaining rare - and often dangerous - antiquities. I bought this game only a week ago, and already I'm on Chapter Five. Well, at the easiest level there is (Freshman), while I'm saving each Chapter at least a dozen times! Still, I'm learning the areas. It's great controlling an all-time fictitious but lovable adventuring archaeologist, and this PC/Playstation game provides the next best thing in accompanying Indy and solving logic puzzles, collecting items, while dodging or shooting villains - in this case, Russian Communists. They are sniffing around an ancient city, and it's up to Indiana Jones (YOU!) to discover what they're up to before a priceless and powerful engine falls into their hands! The trail is long and hard. As ever, Indy is equipped with his trusty revolver and famed bull-whip. However, both weapons are more ideal for close range use: yet you can pick up long-range combat rifles and machine guns - even grenades! If you lack a particular item at a certain time, it could spell doom for Indy, and the same goes for if he should make a wrong action move in treacherous terrain. So it's a fast heart beating throughout the game.

It's advisable not to be over-confident in your search for the Infernal Machine; familiarise yourself with the control keys first, and make sure you 'save' a game at regular intervals, so you don't have to, e.g: make three gigantic leaps over lava pits all over again! It can be pretty annoying trying to retrace your steps to the point where, with luck, you might survive to improve upon the next challenge. There is also a map. Again, this is a necessity to beginners (I wouldn't know where I'd be without it), as it hints at which area should be explored next. Overall, the varied scenery and an exciting race across the globe, filled with secret doors (and, yes, booby-traps!) with a choice of weapons along the way, and a gripping plotline makes this one of Indy's best adventures yet. Perhaps Harrison Ford should play this game so he can step back into the title role for 'Indiana Jones 4'?

4.0 out of 5 stars dated graphics, but still great fun!, 14 Oct 2001
As adventure games go, this is a good one. The graphics are showing their age, but still reasonably effective. It's only failure is the mind bogglingly arbitrary sequences in certain parts of the game, such as having to press a particular button 3 times (and how are you supposed to know????), but with a little help it's great fun. It kept us up 'til after midnight regularly.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, 9 Jun 2003
By mrs pc (Ilkley, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
after waiting so long for the third adventure I was very disappointed to find this was all action and no adventure - well, not for me anyway. The best part of the others was the humour. This was all kill and climb - I got to the top of the rock and got bored, gave up. Wasted a lot of money, wasn't going to waste time as well.
