Book Description

1 Mar 1999

The Indian in the Cupboard is the first of five gripping books about Omri and his plastic North American Indian – Little Bull – who comes alive when Omri puts him in a cupboard.

For Omri, it is a dream come true when the plastic American Indian he locks into the old cupboard comes to life. Little Bull is everything an Indian brave should be – proud, fearless and defiant.

But being in charge of a real, live, human being is a heavy responsibility, as Omri soon discovers. And when his best friend, Patrick, is let in on the secret, he soon realises that life-changing decisions lie ahead.

Review

‘An assured piece of story-telling, well able to stand comparison with older classics.”
Times Educational Supplement.

From the Back Cover

Omri cautiously turned the key and opened the cupboard door.
The Indian was gone!
Omri peered into the dark corners. Suddenly he saw him . . .
And he was alive.

At first, Omri is unimpressed with the plastic Indian toy he is given for his birthday. But when he puts it in his old cupboard and locks the door with a very special key, Omri's life suddenly changes. When he meets Little Bull things are never really the same again . . .

"Enthralling and hair-raising reading"
TLS

"Eight-year-olds upwards are captivated by these stories."

This book is about a boy who was given an old cupboard for his birthday. It can change plastic model figures and toys into life if you put them in the cupboard and lock it with a special key. We loved this book because we like to think of being able to do this with our own dolls house people. I am 9 years old, my two sisters are 7 and 11. It is really exciting because you are always worried that someone else is going to find out about the cupboard, that it would no longer be a secret and the cupboard would be taken away. We really wanted to read all the other books in the series. There are about 4 other books that continue the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE ADVENTURE OF THE INDIAN 3 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
"The Indian In The Cupboard" is a long book by Lynne Reid Banks. It is very, very, very good. It's about a boy who has a magic cupboard. At first he is not impressed with his toy plastic indian but when he puts it in the cupboard it comes to life. Omri, the boy, enjoys playing with the indian. I think it is a brilliant book because it has good imagination.

The indian in the cupboard is about a boy called Omri who is given a plastic indian and a cupboard with a magic key although the film hasn't got a very good reputation the book is so good. I think that ages from 10 up probably would enjoy it. It has a good story line and it is very interesting SO READ IT!!!!
