More About the Author

Shalu Sharma is a travel blogger who has lived in India and the UK and travelled extensively around the world with her husband. She has worked as a sales woman, worked for a law firm and nearly ended up as a lecturer in Indian history. Today, she has a huge mortgage, wants to explore the world and plans to cook more delicious food for her husband (who never appreciates her cooking).

Her blog highlights the various places, issues and culture of India to the world in her own unusual way.

Apart from the usual Indian duties of family life, frantic blogging, tweeting and 'facebooking'; she finds time to watch Bollywood movies, listen to music (Indian, Western and Country) and catch up on the political affairs of India. When no one's listening, she sings too (usually in the bathroom).

She can be found commenting and tweeting on her twitter account @Bihar. You can find her on her blog or You can get in touch with her on

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Concept 19 Mar. 2015
By Chloe
"India For Kids" is a brilliant concept - travel guides are always written with the adult traveller in mind, but of course now, more than ever, we travel with our children and Shalu Sharma with her easy-to-read style and deep fount of personal knowledge has produced a must read book for families visiting the sub-continent.

Ms Sharma starts with school curriculum subjects - history, geography, weather, languages, the rule of the British, the separation of India and the creation of Pakistan and Bangladesh. We learn about the great Hindu epics and she takes us on a sight seeing tour of Bollywood, the Seven Wonders of India and the Pink City. The way she has organised her book is like a journey itself and, I am sure, many adults acquiring "India For Kids" for their children will end up reading every word themselves.

I found this a super accessible book not just for my kids but also for me. It answers all of their most asked questions (particularly why cows wander on the roads) and gives a basic insight into the country, it's history, culture, religions, languages and foods. Einfach Super!
