Biography

"All of 20, she's got the songwriting soul of someone twice her age and a voice to die for. Her appearance at the recent SXSW made us full-on believers." —Boudin Barndance

Blessed with a blast-it-to-the-back-of-the-room voice, the 21-year-old native of Columbus, OH combines country classicism with punk rock candor—sometimes within the same song.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Pipes On The Country Strip 17 Sep 2011
By Glenn TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Here's New Country with plenty of rock and rascal feminity. Lydia Loveless has the pipes to propel her dragster vocals along the guarter mile with rootsy wheel spin and speed. It isn't a raucous voice, but it sure has confidence and clarity. Only 21, she sings with honest experience about drinking and partying and not changing her ways. There's countryrock swagger on opener 'Bad Way To Go' as well as a Clinesque power and beauty on the traditional sounding 'How Many Women'. There's also wit in track 'Steve Earle' which is about being stalked by a man claiming to be the famous outlaw singer. Closer 'Crazy' is a beautiful track with fiddle finessing the sad and confessional lyrics. Every song is strong, but the voice is stronger on this second release and Loveless is definitely someone to continue following as it's bound to continue being this compelling: just listen to 'Can't Change Me'. Get yourself a beer and enjoy the racing.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a female country singer with balls. 7 Dec 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The second album from a gal not afraid to step outside the sweetness of the normal country singers.
For her age there's a maturity of life and she's not afraid to let rip.
Great vocals, great arrangements, could only be bettered if I could see her live.
Hope she tours soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars rising star 13 Sep 2011
By terence reisman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I am a 68 year old music junkie who listens to everything from grand opera to grand ol opry, Hank to Hendrix and a whole bunch more. I love this cd and I love the talent on display here. If you love "alt country" that is sung by a young lady with a powerful, beautiful voice, then this is for you. She can write beyond her years. Can't wait to see her live; come to Tallahassee, Fl. on your next tour and I'll be there if I can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punky Crunchy Country 22 Sep 2011
By P. Swinford - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Who would have thought that a 21-year-old could write and co-produce such an invigorating set of raw, splintering country rock? Makes you wonder if she's some doe-eyed honky tonk chanteuse of yore reincarnated in Columbus, Ohio.

There are countless garage bands across the U.S. who have vied for a similar melodic, buzzing guitar sound, but Lydia emphasizes country song structure over rock, filling out the ruckus with banjo, violin and pedal steel. The band is deftly adaptable, stretching its punky, crunchy country inflections around mid-tempo shuffle beats ("How Many Women") and a stompin' polka beat ("Jesus Was a Wino").

Lydia's voice and songwriting are every bit the match of the top notch musicianship. Her alto is genuinely melodic and her personal reflections are surprisingly mature, whether she's singing about alcohol, religion, romance, or a local stalker who fancies he's Steve Earle.

"Indestructible Machine" is an exciting album from promising talents. Co-producer/engineer Joe Viers deserves praise for the clarity and balance of the final mix. He has preserved a worthy document of a band that leaves everything on stage when it performs and everything in the studio when it records.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff! 31 Oct 2011
By Robert Killheffer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Loveless' second album (first for Bloodshot) rocks it up much more than her debut, The Only Man, but it sticks by the root-deep country spirit that Loveless seems to channel effortlessly. It's a perfect second album, preserving much of what charmed on the first while moving in new directions.

And god I just love her voice and her slap-in-the-face lyrics.

She really kicks it on stage, too. If you get a chance to see her, don't miss it.
