Book Description

Tired of packaged holidays or want to save some money and have more control over your next trip? Are you planning a honeymoon or are you planning to travel around the tropics and fancy some downtime during your travels but do not know where to go?

There is something about the tropics that once you have experienced it, it is hard to go anywhere else. The heady mix of blue sea and sky, glorious white sands and the constant temperatures combined with the welcoming and friendly people make relaxation unavoidable. These days it is getting harder to hide yourself away, as more people travel and those out of the way places are becoming more popular. That does not mean you need to hang with the herd, the places in this book will inspire you and give you that sense of luxury that only being away from the crowds in a beautiful environment can bring.

The book gives you a round-up of 6 of the loveliest places in the world to hang out in the sunshine and gives the information you need to plan the trip yourself. Covering some of the more out of the way places in the Maldives, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Cook Islands and French Polynesia (Tahiti), you will be spoilt for choice. Whether you are a solo traveller or will be travelling as a couple, using the information in this book as a guide and with a little effort, you can arrange the trip of a lifetime.

It's really not as hard as you think.

More About the Author

The author was 20 years old and studying for a physics exam at university, when she realised she wasn't really cut out to be a scientist. Two weeks later she left for what was not only her first independent trip abroad but also her first as a solo traveller.

In those days it wasn't quite as commonplace as today, there was no internet or mobile phones and she didn't even have a travel guide. She booked a ticket, ordered a passport, grabbed an old army kit bag that she'd somehow acquired and packed it with everything she thought she'd need. She even packed an iron and they were solid metal in those days. She then put on her kitten heeled shoes and spent the next 3 months travelling around with her camera, checking things out.

These days the shoes are more sensible and the iron definitely gets left at home but the wanderlust is still there.

In the intervening years she's had a career that has enabled her to continue to travel and around a decade ago, had some pieces published in a couple of newspapers that stemmed from one of her more interesting trips.

The writer behind Alexia has been checking out things for far longer than she should admit to. Prior to morphing into Alexia, she had travelled to extremely interesting places, had articles published in newspapers, met interesting people and generally lived an extraordinary life.

She's also on the credits for "The Gate", which was the first major art installation for Yannick Antoine, who uses technology as art to bring down the walls between people and avatars. The latest exhibition was in Shanghai, China in February 2011.

Her last exhibition piece was a SL8B exhibit called "Through The Looking Glass" in 2010.

She has released two books "The Independent Traveller's Guide to Cambodia" and "Preparing and Publishing Your First Kindle eBook" through Immersive Digital Publishing and the third book "The Independent Traveller's Guide to Tropical Getaways" will be released in April 2013.

This book was a good start toward planning our Tahiti trip. It was a good overall book of things to keep in mind to have a fun and safe trip.
