I came across this in a charity shop a few years ago, bought it on a whim and then forgot all about it - I only wish I'd read it straight away. This is such a lovely, informative book and is one of the few cook books I dip into regularly for the pleasure of reading. Although it dates from the 1980s, the focus on eating seasonally available foods could never be more pertinent. This book also makes a refreshing change from the glut of pretentious celebrity, soft-focus, image-fixated nonsense that's now available. The recipes are by no means exhaustive in scope - he more points you in the right direction, in much the way you might expect a cooking friend to do. Not a book for an absolute beginner but everything I've tried from it so far has worked very well. A good-humoured and friendly addition to any cook's collection.
