Oh my... This album goes on w-a-a-a-y too long... It's boring and all the songs are so long... And as if that isn't bad enough,. they slap a second version of one of the tracks on it at the end at over five minutes long...!??
This for me was a great disappointment from Lulu after hearing the fabulous single 'Independence'. If you're expecting more songs like that on this album - then forget it...
I believe the best album from Lulu was the one that never got released 'Poor Boys'. At the time, I heard her sing several tracks from the forthcoming album, but for some reason it was 'shelved'. I remember nagging someone 'in the know' at the time to find out why, and I did get a reason - eventually, though I can't recall what it was, and I'm unable to find the letter I received...
Here we have a very 'bland' album that promised to be much better. There is a cover 'How 'Bout Us' which was a big hit for 'Champaign' way back in 1981 - but this is not a good rendition. (sorry Lulu!) There's also a song involving ex husband Maurice Gibb and the 'Bee Gees' - this is okay, but to be honest, I have big problems with Celebes who appear to still be great friends with their ex-spouses. (Brightman and Webber another example) It's really weird... I find it hard to understand how they can be such good friends, but end their marriages... Stranger still, are their new Partners who seem to accept this 'bizarre' on-going 'relationship' that isn't a 'relationship?? with their exes... 'Unfinished business' without a doubt in my opinion! (call me cynical if you like) I wouldn't except my Partner doing more then sending a Christmas card to his ex if he had one - and I'd even questions that...
Sorry - got a bit carried away there! Shame about this album. Let's hope 'Poor Boys' eventually gets an airing.
