Book Description

WINNER OF THE 2012 UTOPYA AWARD FOR BEST VILLAIN

I hang my head in sorrow for just a moment when I know I am truly alone. I feel like I’m going to my execution, just as he had said. Then I move forward again. I hop a fence of fieldstone and cross a field dotted with Queen Anne’s lace. Goose bumps rise on my arms as I pass the cluster of windmills that I have seen in a dream. The scent is sweet in the field though, not the scent of heat, like it had been when it was forced upon me in visions. I gaze down the hill, beyond the small, whitewashed house that I knew would be there. The church looms dark and grim with its rough-hewn, timber façade, capped by tall, oblong spires reaching to the sky. Black, ominous clouds have collected above the roofline, as if Heaven is showing me the way.

More About the Author

I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I'm writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they're real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I'll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter...and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my "writing uniform" consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. And they smile at my nerdy bookishness whenever I try to explain urban fantasy to them. In short, they get me, so they are perfect and I am blessed. 5.0 out of 5 stars superb read 4 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a really well written enjoyable read, just when you think there cant be any more intensity between the characters something else happens its an action packed fantasy tale. I loved all the supernatural creatures in this and even softened a little towards the gancannagh! Evie and Reeds relationship is strained to the max in this novel but just when the reader thinks there is no way out of the situation that evie finds herself in, a clever twist unfurls ... I truly love this series and I am a not so young adult!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this series! 11 Nov. 2013

5 stars!! (I reviewed this as a series, so have cut and pasted the relevant excerpts)

Another author recommended this series to me, at the time, I did not know it was a paranormal. Because I trust this author implicitly, I downloaded all 4 books, agreeing that we would buddy read the 4th book. Anyone who knows me, knows I do not read paranormal. I have never quite been able to get into this genre. A few series have caught my attention and I have read them but not to the degree that Amy Bartol did.

To say I loved this series is a serious understatement because I absolutely adore this series. I was captivated from the start and read all 4 books in 3 days, I seriously could not put them down and as soon as one was finished I opened up the next and just carried on.

Indebted ~ Wow, things are definitely heating up in this instalment. The world has gone mad and every bad being in the whole world is after Evie. There is nothing they will do to be stopped and different beings are coordinating themselves to get a better shot at taking Evie down.

"You can either live above this mess or you can live under it. Embrace destiny or be buried by it."

Evie can be annoying at times I will say, her persistent need to sacrifice herself for others is becoming a tad annoying especially as it always ends up putting them in more danger. Does she not realise by now that they will do ANYTHING to protect her!! I know she is half Seraphim and so has this incessant need to protect but please Evie, listen to the others for once. They have thousands of years of experience!! Argggghhhhh! But, because of this trait of Evie's the situations that everyone finds themselves in, leads to a great story that has twists and turns that you will never see coming.

The third book in this series, and like the first and second book its a page turner, all the books are very well written, and will keep you reading, just to find out what is going to happen next. I have even begain to get a soft spot fot the Gancanagh and Brennus and da Fellas! Looking forward already to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible 3 Nov. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an an absolute must read!!! The 3rd book in the series and I have to say I am such a brennus fan!!!!
Is it just me or does any one else find reed condescending and possessive. I love that in this book you find out that Evie has a dark side and isn't as angelic as first thought. I down loaded and read this book within 12 hours and in climbing the walls to get he 4th book that's released at Christmas. All the characters are believable in personality and just amazing to get to no. I think that in this book everyone realises that Evie is strong minded and can't be pushed in a direction that she doesn't want to and will rebel and do the opposite. Please let the final book see more or brennus and maybe let them be together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive 29 Oct. 2012

The characters are relatable, you feel empathy for them and their plight. I found myself reading faster and faster through each book as I was so eager to find out what happens!
Amy (author) is also a delight on Twitter and I can't wait to read the next book!

I'd definitely recommend this whole series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Maximaly disappointed and irritated 8 Oct. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I rarely rate book with 1 star but I had no other choice this time. I didn't like storyline AT ALL. Main character irritated me AT MAXIMUM. And I found myself skimming through chapters quite often.

Author tried to do the impossible. In the first book she created absolutely dreamy guy and made every reader to fall for him. And than she created absolutely bad guy who tried to kill heroine even though he loved her in his totally sick way. And now she tries to turn this bad guy into the good one and wants to persuade readers to like him??? I do not understand how author wants us to love him when he forces the heroine to be something she does not want to be and takes her away from her loved ones. There is where author failed in my eyes and the fact that author built up this book on some psycho guy is the reason that this book is failure for me.

And I am not even going to comment on the fact that author made the heroine to look like some "easy girl", having strong feelings for every hot guy who wants her. The love triangle may be acceptable but love square? It was too much for me.

I really liked the first book, I was disapponted with the second one, but after reading third book...I think I am done with this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars YES! 20 Aug. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The first book was good, but the ones that follow are better! I love this series. It keeps surprising me, and I read so much that I find it hard to find books that do that anymore. It's got laugh-out-loud parts, mixed in with the serious story-line. It makes me really love the main character, Evie. I love Russle too, and I have no idea how their story is going to turn out. Oooooo, it's a need-to-know series! I'm itching to get my hands on the next installment!
