Straighten out your thinking for the better, 19 Sep 2005
This review is from: The Incredible Sulk (Overcoming common problems) (Paperback)
I have read several books on rational emotive behavioural therapy, but this one has hit spot on with me, because I recognise so much of myself in the pages within.
As the title suggests, this book addresses SULKING and looking back on my life it is a strategy I have used all too often. Now I know better,in that I am more confident in tackling issues with others who I disagree with I now am far more assertive, but it is only too easy to lapse into my old ways.
Funnily enough, I came to this book in search of answers to why some people are 'cool' with me.
I now know it is because they are probably sulking. This is a bad way to resolve problems in relationships and I know of cases that have gone on for 10's of years. Sometimes, people have died without the situation being resolved and in many cases the issues were only of a 'petty' nature.
This book straightens out your thinking like no other I have ever read and I hope it will be re-printed again as there are far too many people who carry on in ways that perpetuate unhappiness in themselves and others.
I cannot speak too highly of this author and he should be given greater exposure that will undoubtedly result in more happy, confident and dare I say it, contented people. A Five star rating is not enough for this book.

Amazing, 6 Dec 2011
This review is from: The Incredible Sulk (Overcoming common problems) (Paperback)
I bought this book as I had a sulky partner (I have since left him) and, since googling about sulking became worried as it can be a really serious issue. I found the book very readable, thought provoking and helpful, useful in many areas of life, not just dealing with a sulker, as it made me think deeply about my own attitudes and responses (you can't change 'them' you can only change how you view and respond to what they do). Interestingly, the book did in fact bring about a marked reduction in my ex's sulking behaviour. Leaving it lying about as I was reading it was much more effective than anything I ever found to say about his sulking!

The Incredible Sulk, 24 Jun 2011
This review is from: The Incredible Sulk (Overcoming common problems) (Paperback)
This is an easy-to-read book outlining the definitions of, reasons for and advice to overcome "sulking".
Being so short, the advice is to-the-point and the reader is happy to review chapters and get involved in some of the suggested activities.
Of particular interest is the reference to techniques to promote non-judgemental thought; both of self and others. Along with this, there is valuable advice regarding adopting a positive "assertive" approach to interpersonal relationships.
A useful read for those of us who "sulk" and those who recognise "sulking" in others.
