I love it when David gets angry, 26 Jul 2007
This collection of 3 episodes from the classic television series consists of two season 4 episodes (The First, parts 1 & 2) and one season 2 episode (Kindred Spirits). They show well the overall quality of the series and are similarly themed, making them flow well together.
In Kindred Spirits David Banner joins an archeological dig that has uncovered evidence of a prehistoric Hulk-like creature. David once again hopes that a possible cure may be found at the site. The episode has good supporting actors (a very young Kim Cattrall and A Martinez), solid story and writing and some decent Hulk action.
The First is one of the legendery episodes as it features two Hulks. David finds out that another creature like him existed before. It turns out that the man with the affliction was cured and now David is closer than ever to discovering a cure.
Bill Bixby is always good as David Banner, but here he outdoes himself with a fantastic performance, especially in the dramatic second part. The fight between the two Hulks is great and overall The First is an excellent episode, marred only by weak acting from supporting actors.
The series had it's ups and downs but mostly the Hulk episodes were entertaining and professionally made. This collection is a good sample of what the series had to offer.

An interesting selection, 16 Feb 2009
At a bargain price, this DVD collects a two part episode, called 'The First', and an intriguing single episode, 'Kindred Spirits'. In 'The First', the Hulk has to fight a more dangerous copy of himself - a premise used in almost every 80s US TV show. The other episode, 'Kindred Spirits', has a fair bit of psychological depth. A bit like in the fable of the deaf, dumb and blind men, who all perceive an elephant differently, in 'Kindred Spirits', everyone interprets the Hulk differently, so as to confirm their own belief systems. I love the scene in which the native American shaman's face erupts into a glad smile, as if the Hulk's appearance proves that native American traditions are true. When McGee expresses doubts about his Native American beliefs, the shaman comments with quiet confidence, "Oh, our spirits are real." I think the bit about referring to the Hulk as a "spirit" is also good, as it chimes with the voiceover on the opening credits, which describes the Hulk as "the raging spirit" which dwells within David. Like 'Pride & Prejudice' and many other literary works, the title of 'Kindred Spirits', is obviously intended to be ambiguous. The most obvious kindred spirits are the present day Hulk, and the Hulk who lived 30,000 years ago. Other kindred spirits could be David and Gabrielle White(Cloud), who recognises him, but keeps his secret. Despite distancing herself from certain parts of her community and becoming an academic, Gabrielle is a kindred spirit with her people too, at the end reverting to the name, Whitecloud. In the broadest sense, the episode is saying that we are all kindred spirits. This is clear when the shaman explains that when their spirit decide to manifest himself, he chose to become green so that no race could feel superior to any other. To him, the Hulk was universal kinship incarnate. A good, solid episode. I'm still, however, waiting to get my favourite Hulk episode of all, the Psychic. This was a story which said more about empathy than anything else I've ever seen on TV.

I just love those ripping shirts., 26 Dec 2007
This is a themed DVD of the incredible Hulk 'The legend of the incredible Hulk' In 'Kindred spirits' David finds evidence of the existence of a Hulk like creature centuries before. when he joins the archaeological dig, and tries to dig deeper, things are complicated when he's recognised by a former student (kim Catrall) and the native Americans on whose land the dig is taking place take exception to it and take matters inot their own hands. an enjoyable watch, but Bix outshines Catrall by miles.
In the first, David Banner investigates reports of a previous Hulk. The man who used to turn into a Hulk is now cured but, he wants the power of the Hulk back. Now closer to a cure than ever before, can David stop Dell frye (Harry Townes) and his creature (dick Durrock) before it's too late. Bill Bixby really amazes and gives the performance of a lifetime in this episode. and the fight between the two hulks is wonderful. Quality Human drama at it's best.
