Amazon.co.uk Review

A more accessible and less heavy-handed movie than Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk, Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk is a purely popcorn love affair with Marvel's raging, green superhero, as well as the old television series starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast within him. Edward Norton takes up where Eric Bana left off in Lee's version, playing Bruce (that's the character's original name) Banner, a haunted scientist always on the move. Trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions get the better of him, Banner is hiding out in Brazil at the film's beginning. Working in a bottling plant and communicating via email with an unidentified professor who thinks he can help, Banner goes postal when General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and a small army turn up to grab him. Intent on developing whatever causes Banner's metamorphoses into a weapon, Ross brings along a quietly deranged soldier named Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who wants Ross to turn him into a supersoldier who can take on the Hulk. The adventure spreads to the U.S., where Banner hooks up with his old lover (and Ross' daughter), Betty (Liv Tyler), and where the Hulk takes on several armed assaults, including one in a pretty unusual location: a college campus. The film's action is impressive, though the computer-generated creature is disappointingly cartoonish, and a second monster turning up late in the movie looks even cheesier. Norton is largely wasted in the film--he's essentially a bridge between sequences where he disappears and the Hulk rampages around. As good an actor as he is, Norton doesn't have the charisma here to carry those scenes in which one waits impatiently for the real show to begin. --Tom Keogh

5.0 out of 5 stars True to the spirit of the original, 19 Oct 2008

I enjoyed both Hulk movies but this one is superior in many ways. Thoroughly enjoyable and manages to combine the feel of the comics with various nods to the TV series thrown in.
Most of all I appreciated the fact that it avoided all those frustrating moments when Hollywood insults the audience's intelligence. Its highly entertaining and has some good scripting in parts.
Liv Tyler is stunning as always, but I do wish they'd found a slightly taller uber-soldier...
My wife and I really enjoyed watching this on blu-ray. Recommended if you're a hulk fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big improvement on the last one..., 10 Nov 2008

When I sat down to watch this movie, I had no real expectations as the last Hulk movie was very poor, however with the recent spate of excellent Marvel films I was keeping my fingers crossed. Firstly I must say this was a huge improvement from the movie a few years back. The CGI was a lot less obvious and the movie had a much fuller story. Nice cameo from Lou Ferrigno as the security guard and of course Stan Lee. Looked good on Blu Ray, however not as much for me as Iron Man. Major downside for me was Liv Tyler, just didn't find her at all convincing.... to girly, breathless and pouting for a top scientist. I have to admit that I have not had the same issues on the Blu ray as some of the others here. Summary is good movie, just not quite up there with Iron Man and the Dark Knight

5.0 out of 5 stars my opinion, 14 Oct 2008
By D. apergis "Red hoplite" (uk) - See all my reviews

in my opinion this is a very, very good hulk movie.

more true to the comic book with more action and suspence than the 2003 one ever had. this is achieved by casting edward norton as bruce banner and having him be a cast away and fugitive from the start of the film so it never gets boring and one is not tired of watching the bruce banner bits.
Lots of people put down how the hulk looks. i thought the cgi is amazing folks. he is smaller than in the other movie, and not as green going for an aproach more faithfull to the best selling " hulk grey" comic book, with more heart and emotion that succeeds in making you interested in bruce banner trying to fight this "disease" as much as you are interested in the hulk.

the sweat rolls down the brows , the water makes the skin shine , the vains pop, you can even see his heart beat in the vains !!! what do people mean the cgi is not good?!!!

every artist in the comic books has a different aproach and so it is with films. The director is the artist and has done a damn good job putting together a film that never bores and keeps you interested in bruce and his alter ego alike.
its a comic book adaptation with much suspence and human drama and closer to its roots than the 2003 long and boring version.
enjoeyd it alot.
sounds and looks top notch on blu
