Book Description

11 Sep 2007
Far away in space, there is a planet full of robots able to change from robot form to vehicle form - the Incredible Change-Bots! Leaving their war torn planet, the Change-Bots arrive on Earth, where their battle continues - but at what cost?! Part parody, part nostalgic tribute, part moral fable, Jeffrey Brown re-invents the shape changing robot genre into an occasionally stopping action comedy half-full of romance, drama and epic battles!

5.0 out of 5 stars chee-choo-chee-choo-chee Change-Bots! 29 May 2011
Imagine the British humour mag Viz in it's eighties heyday doing a parody of Marvel Comic's Transformers; take out the offensive language and general vulgarity and you've basically got the 'Incredible Change-Bots'. From the daft "chee-choo-chee" sound effects added whenever the robots transform, to the lame spoof names (such as 'Shootertron') this book is a fabulously offbeat satire packed full of amusing one or two page skits. I've just ordered Incredible Change-Bots Two so I re-read this volume and it still gave me a chuckle, I'm not quite sure how it will come across to anyone not au fait with the material it parodies but to anyone who is I'd certainly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Transformers fans! 23 April 2008
By grr
This is so so so awesome, a perfect book for any Transformers or (dare I say) Go-Bots fan!
Yes, it blatantly looks like some home-made effort made with colouring pens but thats its charm! Kind of like a school book doodle to pass the time in class....

Change-Bots takes the mick but also pays tribute to one of the best cartoons of the 1980's. And you will see some familar story lines, warring robots crash on earth and carry on their battles! Expect sound effects aplenty - choo chuk chee choo chuk- you know how it goes... with the Awesomebots battling the evil Shootertron and his band of Fantasticons. The names just make me smile :0)

A brilliant read that will make you smile and play with old toys. (Strictly generation 1!!!!)

Did you know the author also wrote 'Cat getting out of a Bag' too? Totally different but still fab!

Is anyone familiar with Jeffrey Brown's artwork? For those that aren't, Jeffrey draws in a simple but spontaneous style, he usually draws upon his life story and sometimes he'll draw parody stories. This falls into the latter category.
It follows two familiar looking robot teams from the plant of cyber-circuitron who crash land on Earth and restart their petty squabbling whilst (some but not many) humans look on in bemusement and confusion...
The parody is, actually, quite spot on. You'll immediately identify who certain characters are meant to be (Shootertron? hmmmm) and Jeffrey Brown has a gift for spotting the mundane and the inane in a fantastical situation and making it funny.
Criticism? Its shallow on story but then most parody books are? Its not laugh-out-loud funny but this makes for an interesting diversion...
Look out for the sequel to this book (and a hopefully, incoming threequel)

2.0 out of 5 stars Just Not Funny 8 Jun 2012

I bought this, as well as the sequel, at same time. Alas, I was disappointed.

Maybe I was expecting something WAAYYY funnier than this, but to be honest the story was merely OK and really not satisfying. Despite the fact that I own all the Transformers cartoons on DVD, and I'm a fairly big Trans-Fan (and I have an inner 12-year old), I feel like maybe I'm not the target audience for these 2 books.

Think about it... There IS SO MUCH comedy material in the Transformers cartoons, comics, and movies... it's a literal comedy goldmine! But the author seemed to skip 95%, and while telling the mediocre and simplistic story, the few jokes he did make were more of the "smile" variety, not the "ROFL" variety.

I truly wanted to ROFL. I truly did.

I was disappoint.

Maybe I get get a few bucks for them on ebay, or donate to my local library...

5.0 out of 5 stars Chee-choo-chuk-chu-chook: Incredible change! 27 July 2009
By F. Escudero - Published on Amazon.com
As soon as I started reading the Incredible Change-Bots, I couldn't put the book down until I finished it.
I grew up in the 80's watching Transformers and other animated robots that were able to do the most incredible things. These guys come pretty close to that, but they're much more human and prone to errors like us.
With names like Balls, Rusty, Microwave or Soupy and the great art and story by Jeff Brown you'll have lots of fun reading this graphic novel.
Totally recommended if you like robots, comics and still remember the old Transformers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brought back memories and made some new ones. 29 Sep 2007

If you grew up with the Go-Bots or Transformers this book is for you. Jeffrey Brown takes all the stereotypes and obsurdities of these cartoons and has created an unforgettably funny story about robots, humans and total misunderstandings.
