A brilliant collection of mid-length stories by a master writer of hard SF. These stories are not in one of the master's normal universes, but are dazzling stand-alones.
One of them 'The Fourth Profession' is my favourite, a bartender becomes a starship captain! by swallowing a pill! and then finds that there was no such pill!
You have to read it - superb.
