5.0 out of 5 stars The Slaves will Overcome, 18 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Another band vying for KoRn's spot, just another bunch of fake wannabes? No way, Slaves on Dope are the real deal and should be taken very seriously. These guys hail from the nether regions of Canada and are the biggest secret Canada's underground has ever harboured. The four piece have been exceptionally lucky in their career and have progressed without massive exposure. One name, Ozzy Osbourne. It says it all, Ozzy signed these guys to his Divine label and liked their music so much he let them open the stage on OZZFest in 1999. Despite of this the band has avoided big mistakes. The Slaves have a strong fan base in most of America nad should hit Europe like a storm if they ever get over here. The music itself is totally mind blowing. the excellent bass line and strong vocals and lyrics are the base of the band. The exceptional wall of sound that hits you when you press play just makes you want to start moshing, even on your own! Aggressive lyrics tell us this is a very peeved band and they write about some interesting stuff, Illegal Immigration, Tag along bands and Drug addiction to name a few. Their cover of Black Sabbath favourite "War Pigs" (not on this album) shows that even old dogs can learn new tricks as it gets a great re-vamp. If anyone was to pick up this CD who was in to the likes of KoRn, Deftones and to a further extent most nu metal, then they would be shocked at how such a unrecognised band can be so good. Songs that hit you from the album more than the others (I can assure you each song is killer and no filler) are "Pushing Me" (a raging metal song which bursts in after the intro), "Stick it Up" (An obviously aggressive song with a very comendable shout along chorus) and finally "Leader of Losers" (with the unforgetable angst line of "Don't tell me / How to Live My Life"). Slaves should go far and if Ozzy ever remebers there's a market in Europe he'll send them packing over here to excite, rock, impress and totally blow away anyone who is not tone deaf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 22 May 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Inches From the Mainline (Audio CD)
This album is the best I have. It's totally heavy and everyone who likes Slipknot/Dimmu Borgir/Underule/any other no-name metal band should check this out. Totally underated (bit cut short on lyrical-genius in Thanks For Nothin').
