Biography

Nirvana were formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990.

In the late 1980s Nirvana established itself as part of the Seattle grunge scene, releasing first album Bleach for the independent record label Sub Pop in 1989. The band… Read more in Amazon's Nirvana Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

And so, in the fiscally dark years between Nevermind and the much-delayed In Utero, Geffen Records cobbled together a pile of Nirvana b-sides and out-takes, and were so glad they had something to bleed the hungry grunge-hordes dry with that they allowed Cobain to give it the poisonous title Incesticide. As cash-ins go, it's one of the more essential ones: obviously there simply aren't that many Kurt Cobain songs in existence, and the inclusion of the incredibly rare single "Sliver" and the insanely catchy "Mexican Seafood" will gladden any Nirvana fan's heart. The 50s' pop parody of "Hairspray Queen" reminds us that--hey!--Kurt was a funny guy too, and "Aero Zeppelin" and "Big Long Now" would hardly look out of place on either Nevermind or In Utero. And the liner-notes--a Cobain-penned rant begging all jocks, homophobes, racists and sexists not to buy his records--are a piece of rock history in their own right. --Caitlin Moran

i have known of this cd for some time now and have only just added it to my collection of other nirvana stuff. Wow! the quality of this album took my breath away particularly tracks like Dive,Big long now,and aneurysm. These and others are timeless and further underline the genius of Kurt Cobain. This album is certainly much more worthy than being labelled a 'b sides album' and could be off putting to potential buyers Miss it at your peril.

Whatever you can say about Nevermind and In Utero, for me this is Nirvana's most original record. That's not to put the others down - Nevermind is a fantastically energetic and powerful album, while In Utero is by turns elegant and degenerate despite remaining about as emotional as you can get. I'm not going to talk about Bleach btw.
Anyway, Insesticide while not always easy to listen to has more passion than anything else Nirvana have done and at times Kurt's voice sounds clearer and more agonised than I've heard it elsewhere. His vocals are varied throughout, shifting through paranoid sounding mumbles, to piercing screams and aggressive grunting through to sweet tunes along the way.
Obviously a rough recording at times and not likely to remain in your cd player as much as the two major records but for raw talent, emotional fire and unusual rock inventiveness, this is a good place to come.

Okay here's what you need to know. If you LOVE Nirvana then you probably have this Compilation album already. If you Liked Nevermind and are thinking of buying another Nirvana album, Get In Utero. But thats not to say this album isn't any good, It is good, but it lacks the good qualities of other albums.
Any fan, passing fan, or other will love songs 1 to 8, there just simply good punk-pop, or grunge (hate the word) tunes. Beeswax, Downer, Mexican Seafood, Hairspray Queen are weird songs which took me a while to get used to. There very strange songs which don't involve much melody but do involve the patented Cobain Screach and mumble, with weird guitars to back that up. Aero Zepplin, Big Long Now and Aneurysm put you back on track with tipical Nirvana songs.
Overall this album is Good. But some songs do let it down.
I would recommend this to a Die hard Nirvana Fan and anyone who loves most of there stuff on Bleach and In Utero. If you are planning on letting this be your first Nirvana purchase or even second DON'T, there are other albums out there that are far better.

Isn't bad.
This isn't a really essential CD if you are just a casual fan of Nirvana. This CD mixes songs sounding like something of the Nevermind album and the Bleach album. Read more
