Product Description

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) directs an international cast in this sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is the best there is at extraction: stealing valuable secrets inside the subconscious during the mind’s vulnerable dream state. His skill has made him a coveted player in industrial espionage but also has made him a fugitive and cost him dearly. Now he may get a second chance if he can do the impossible: inception, planting an idea rather than stealing one. If they succeed, Cobb and his team could pull off the perfect crime. But no planning or expertise can prepare them for a dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy only Cobb could have seen coming.

Trivia.
1)If you take the first letters of the main characters' names - Dom, Robert, Eames, Arthur, Mal and Saito - they spell "Dreams". If you add Peter, Ariadne and Yusuf, the whole makes "Dreams Pay", which is what they do for a mind thief.
2)When Cobb gave Ariadne the puzzle test, Ariadne's final solution was a diagram of King Minos' Labyrinth. Ariadne is the name of King Minos' daughter in the same mythology.
3)Joseph Gordon-Levitt performed all but one of his own stunts during the fight scene in the spinning hallway.
4)The role of Arthur was originally meant for Heath Ledger before his untimely death.
5)Despite prominent billing, Michael Caine only gets three minutes of screentime.
6)Christopher Nolan has said that the snow-based third-level dream was inspired by his favourite James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).

Format: DVD
If you didn't like the Matrix, you might skip this one. Dicaprio is man who is an expert at entering dreams and extracting information for corporate espionage. He has a problem in that there is a price on his head. He is a wanted man. A Japanese business man wants Dicaprio to enter the mind of a competitor and place an idea in his head to break up his empire. In exchange Dicaprio (Dom Cobb) would be allowed to go home to his family. Cobb first gets an architect (Ellen Page) who can design a complex location, such as a dungeon master creating the stage. He then must assemble a team of people with different skills to navigate through the dream world.

The beginning of the movie is a bit confusing as you don't know what is real and what is a dream. However this shortly clears up. Dom Cobb has a lot of issues concerning his past life and dreamworld which jeopardizes the mission. His dead wife keeps showing up to foil his plans and he just hasn't the heart to kill her. The dreamworld works like a narcotic. Once you go into it, reality becomes boring. This movie is more brilliant in its complexity and script than it is in entertainment, but it worked for me.

the levels of the astral plane and their blockages - ground all blockages/demons (dead wife thoughtform) or you will be sabotaged
this looked like Nolan warming the actors up for The Dark Knight.
soo intricate, clever, confusing, amazing.
visually awesome
soundtrack is awesome - the slow duuuhh ddaaahh soundtrack beat is the Vie en Rose song slowed down - check it out on youtube
someone said this film is ripped off of a Donald Duck cartoon or something, which you can google
i can't tell if this tried to touch The Matrix concept or whether it is original and people are still figuring out how to replicate it
the lucid dreaming documentary on the special disc edition is cool (Levitt is the host)

This review is for the Blu-Ray version - Amazon have a habit of bunching reviews together over different formats.

This is one film that I was happy to get on blu-ray over DVD. The picture quality is superb, a real show case for HD. Colours are vibrant and edges are sharp, with some grain where there are large patches of one colour, but not that you would really notice as you will be drawn into this film. The sound quality is great coming out of my standard TV speakers, but I can't comment any further as I don't have surround sound or a high end sound system.

Dom Cob (Di Caprio) is a thief, but not the kind that steals physical items or data. He steals information from minds. This is done by drugging the subject and using some hi-tech jiggery pokery he and his team are able to enter the targets mind whilst they sleep. A world is created in the targets mind and Cob must trick the person into giving up secrets whilst they go about their business in the dream. However, some people are aware of this and can take precautions.

What Cob can do is trick them further and create a dream within a dream. All this messing around in the mind is not without its dangers and if Dom and his team are not careful, they can get locked in forever. Pretty soon you begin to wonder if your life is real, or are you living in a dream world.

A very thought provoking film that may take a few viewings to get you mind around the time dilations that take place when 'going under'
