As someone completely new to CS3 and InDesign I spent some time researching for useful text books to help me get started and this fit the bill perfectly.

It's a book aimed at complete beginners, taking you through most of the standard features in InDesign CS3 and how to use them exactly as the title suggests - in easy steps. The book has full colour illustrations and is written in plain English, with very little jargon used.

If you already have some experience with older InDesign versions you may find the content a little too basic but if you are a complete newbie and looking for help on how to get started then this book is ideal.

A great book for getting to grips with the CS3 software and to dip into when I'm a bit stuck.

I'm new to InDesign and am finding this guide really helpful, as it walks you through step by step with tips along the way. The index makes it easy to find things you need along the way, although I'm struggling to make sense of some of the projects you can download from the accompanying website - however I'm only part way through so expect all will be revealed.

Good book but just looks so boring. Fine for reference though.

A great deal! 6 Aug 2009
By Steven M. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
I was shocked to discover the small price of this book. Often, when there is a need to learn new software (or software that has been updated so many times since you first used it that it feels "new") a simple, direct book is what is needed. I have plenty of thick, informative, detailed $44 software books that I never look at.
I love this little book. Especially because I am ACTUALLY reading it for the very reason that it is not like many software manuals that become handy as brick-sized bookends, and are rarely perused.
A minor critique: The useful "Hot tip", "Don't forget", and "Beware" side bars are a bit hard on my eyes, as they are presented in a grayed-out sans serif type. But overall the layout is admirably clean and simple.
And the book is in full color, which is amazing given the small price.
Overall, it's excellent! It is just what I needed.

Informative and easy to understand 21 Oct 2008

I liked this book because it explained how to use the program in an easy to read way. I didn't have to wade thru a lot of gibberish to find what I needed to do what I wanted in Indesign.

Excellent backup for learning InDesign 15 Sep 2009

This is excellent as a backup for learning, remembering, and working with InDesign. Goes great with the Visual Quickstart Guide.

I was excited to get a book to guide me through InDesign and i only got more confused the more i read. Created for someone who already knows how to use it not for the beginner. I'd try a Dummies next or some book that can keep it simple and get to the point.
