Like all of Trevor Beeson's books, this is well-written, erudite, and has some wonderful humorous insights into the world of church music. He is at his best when writing about music specifically composed for use in Anglican worship. When he ventures into considering composers whose major work is in other genres and whose church music forms a relatively small part of their output, his hold on the subject seems a little less secure. This said, this is a very good read, and recommended to anyone who has an interest in the music of the good old Church of England.
