This never really happened during their Motown years but Willie's 1978 Whitfield Records début was mostly produced my Norman Whitfield and what an excellent chemistry.
This is Whitfield leaving his psychedelia era behind and laying down funky dance grooves (with help from Rose Royce rhythm section). Best of these are Come on and Dance With Me (here's it it's 12" mix, not the original album version) and Hip Shakin' Sexy Lady. Two stunning ballads, produced by Whitfield and sung to death by Willie - Paradise and Anything Is Possible, still sound pretty good.
Best of the bunch, though, is Willie at his coolest, on the track Easy Does It - I recall this being being massively popular at the more discerning discos.
Willie would record a further album at Whitfield but it wasn't a patch on In Tune. This is my favourite Willie Hutch album and, yes, I am very pleased to replace my ageing vinyl with this excellent Japanese remaster
Now, what about those two Nytro album ? remaster anyone ?
