I was looking for a history of feminism and this book filled the void excellently.
It gave me an overview of the history of western Feminism, showing that it is no less part of the whole culture of human rights and liberalism that arose from the enlightenment and French revolution than any other aspect of our society and placing the Feminist movement in a historical context. It keeps within the constraints of feminist thinking but in an intelligent, self-critical and accessible manner.
It is, however an academic book and not necessarily an easy read.
For what its worth I wish i had read it years earlier.
