Product Description

Every year, the mysterious Gray Whale swims an extraordinary 10,000 miles between the Arctic and Mexico. In this programme Christopher Reeve (before his debilitating accident) sets himself a daunting task of trailing these majestic creatures to try and find out why. He teams up with a group of Yupik Eskimos and sails to the lagoons of Baja where the whales traditionally spend winter. Will Reeve find the answers he is looking for, or will the Gray Whales protect their secrets? The film was completed a short time before Reeve's tragic accident, so he was not well enough to add the narration. Christopher Plummer added the soundtrack, which captures the sentiments that the injured star intended.

5.0 out of 5 stars MONGOLIAN HORSEMEN With Julia Roberts 5 Oct 2010
Format:DVD
Just adding this little precision: this DVD seems to be MULTI-REGION after all.

It does say 'PAL' on the cover, but it also plays on my PC which is set to NTSC / American format...
(Does this mean that it's sure to play in America, on a US computer? I can't say for sure...but it might - which would be great news, since it is so rare and not even available anymore in the US on Amazon.com).

For the rest, as others have pointed out, this is indeed the DVD presented by Julia Roberts and by none other - when I say presented, I mean much more than presented, as she is taking part in all the action, sleeping in a ger ( or yurt), sharing meals with "her" Mongolian family, riding, attending their celebrations and gatherings, etc, all in great and seemingly very real, tangible, enthusiasm. A pleasure to see.

There seems to be a big mix-up of reviews for different titles, that all belong to the same series called " In the Wild".

For some reason, reviews posted for other titles have arrived by mistake on this page.

This makes many of the reviews here irrelevant, because they are about other documentaries, part of the same "In the Wild " series though.

As I am writing this, I started from the page listing " IN THE WILD - MONGOLIAN HORSEMEN" with JULIA ROBERTS. This one is the DVD I have, and it is only about Mongolia, and the only star presenting it is Julia roberts.

So this DVD is not about bears, ponies in Dartmoor, NOR orang-outangs, NOR deers!

I hope my review will only appear on the page where "Mongolian Horsemen" is pictured If you look at the DVD COVER pictured on this page), but chances are, perhaps it will appear on ALL the different 'In the Wild' titles' pages listed on Amazon.

By the way, this docu about MONGOLIA & its people and not just horsemen) is excellent, and very nicely presented by Julia Roberts, who has shared these nomads' life in every particular.

This was, incidentally, the first time I liked Julia Roberts. She was very natural, warm and enthusiastic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Orang Utans?? Not on Dartmoor
Can't understand why other reviews on this film mention Julia Roberts (brilliant actress) and orang utans in the forest. This is all about Dartmoor and its ponies.
