Book Description

Thousands of golfers travel to St Andrews, Scotland, every year with the idea that they're taking a once-in-a-lifetime golf vacation to a town filled with golf history. But sometimes something else happens to many of those golfers. The once-in-a-lifetime idea blows away in the Scottish wind as the golfer begins to fall in love with the country and specifically with this famous small town of St Andrews. … After traveling to St Andrews on two separate occasions, playing golf on the unique links courses of Scotland and hanging out in one particular pub, author Chad Conine determined it was time to ditch his job at a Texas newspaper and move to St Andrews for the promising golf season of 2010. He tells the story of St Andrews in 2010 from his own vantage point — a stool at the bar inside The Dunvegan — as any traveler might experience it. In the end, he found himself entrenched in the town, more attracted to it than ever and, quite literally, In The Burn.

An interesting book giving a personal view of St Andrews. Ideal reading for prospective visitors to the home of golf. The author has obviously spent a good deal of time in St Andrews and describes it well, giving good advice on all the facilities available If you are coming to St Andrews this is the book to buy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 19 Sept. 2013
By Todd Guerra - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I couldn't finish this book. The part that I read - about a third of the book - was about personal relationships that meant mostly nothing to me and, as the other person noted, pretty boring. I wanted golf and experiences in and around St Andrews. Unfortunately the ones of this author weren't very good.
1.0 out of 5 stars Cheeseburger Anyone? 10 Mar. 2015
By WF Enterprises (Consignment) - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Mr. Conine's perspective on Scotland revolves around St. Andrews, hanging out at the Dunvegan Hotel, eating cheeseburgers, and guzzling beer and whisky. What a pity; he has a lot to learn and discover in the rest of the country. This Ebook is full of typos, errors of grammar, sloppy syntax, and generally poor writing--an example, not only of the value of an editor, but of how far golf writing has fallen from the heights achieved by the likes of Herbert Warren Wind, James Finegan, and Malcolm Campbell. This one's way down there "in the burn." It should never have been allowed to surface without a good scrubbing.
4.0 out of 5 stars Cheers to the Dunvegan 8 Oct. 2013

Very enjoyable story, good read hard to put down - The Dunvegan is the place to be in St. Andrews.
3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK 20 Sept. 2013
By Steve Tucker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Mildly entertaining only because I live in the Texas panhandle and can relate somewhat to the author's perspective. Otherwise, I might prefer a little bigger story.
