A true classic, beautifully written, a dispassionate description of the father of all things, "the war, for all its destructiveness, was an incomparable schooling of the heart".

An exceptional account of the horrors and destruction of World War I in France, as seen through the eyes of a young
german soldier. It shows his psychological evolution from a naive and zealous youth to a seasoned embittered veteran.
