Definitely not in the traditional vein of the "classic Kansas sound". In the Spirit of Things was made in the late '80s, a time where '70s classic rock music simply wasn't happening... Not withstanding, Kansas managed to come up with one of its best, yet more under-appreciated recordings. Steve Walsh's soulful and passionate singing combined with Steve Morse's guitar wizardry really made ITSOT a marvelous opus. After carefully and slowly digesting this album, I realize now that ITSOT has got to be one of the top-three releases of 1988!

As an additional bonus the recording sound is almost perfect. The overall production quality is so high that one can really crank the volume up and the sound will still remain crisp and powerful.

Regardless of what other reviewers might say against it, In the Spirit of Things is an album capable of reaching deep emotions... to me, that is what music is all about! Regardless of its harsh criticism, In the Spirit of Things is an absolute must have.

Kansas a missing gem 29 Sep 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I have recently discovered this album, buying it on the off chance. I am very glad I did this ,in my opinion,is the best Kansas album. All the tracks are of a excellant quality ranging from the reflective 'Ghosts' to the creepy 'Rainmaker' via the great chorus tracks like'One man one heart' and 'Stand by Me'
Great singing, great musicianship all round. Buy it and rock on.

Great album 19 Mar 2010
Format:Audio CD
This is a top notch album. Superbly written and played by a class act.

I particularly like Raimaker and The Bells of St James, but there are no fillers here.

Steve Walshes vocals are outstanding but the bands musicianship is right up there, too.

Definitely one for your collection.
