DVD Description

‘Tis the season to be jolly? Not for Alf Garnett. His daughter prefers the company of her Scouse husband, his mates all abandon the pub for their families and he’s left with Marigold and a cheese sandwich. Happy Christmas!

There’s not much that gets Alf’s goat more than Christmas – that is if you ignore immigrants, the unions, the Labour Party, Scousers or the price of beer – and every festive season finds him delivering some of his greatest rants. For a lonely OAP whose pension won’t stretch much further than a pint of mild and some pipe tobacco, it’s time to put on the waterworks, wring what he can out of friends, relations and do-gooders – and spend it down the pub.

These Christmas specials, broadcast between 1985 and 1990, find Alf in great miserable form and include his last Christmas with Else; his short lived career as a store Santa; his Christmas in hospital for a hip replacement and a disastrous wedding day that leaves Mrs. Hollingbery in a less than festive mood…

This DVD release comprises all five Christmas specials from the classic sitcom In Sickness and In Health and each one of them is hilarious, very well acted and sharply written.
The episodes feature Alf and Else's final Christmas together while the remaining episodes deal with Alf's constant battles with upstairs neighbour Mrs. Hollingbury.
If you are a fan of Alf Garnett or just great comedy in general, then you should purchase this DVD now.

Hilarious comedy. 7 Dec 2008

I had only ever seen clips from these shows, but 'In Sickness' and its predecessor 'Till Death Us Do Part' really are a hilarious look at one of the dodgier aspects of human nature. Alf Garnett is an all-time classic comedy creation - we've all known people like him, and we can all laugh at his rantings. This DVD contains the five Christmas specials from 'In Sickness and in Health'. They contain some all-time great moments - Alf Garnett as a department store Santa, and the final Christmas special has to be the most hilarious one as a wedding ends in chaos. The leading character is superbly portrayed, the writing is always top-notch and the supporting actors are all great (I was amazed to see the actor who I remember as playing PC Haynes, one of The Bill's hardmen, now playing Garnett's camp home-help). :0)

There is a notion that this show is racist, but anyone who has actually watched it can see it's Alf Garnett who's the figure of fun, just like Basil Fawlty. So buy this and the other DVDs in this series before they're withdrawn by the designer-suited unelected politically-correct control-freaks who seem to think they know what's best for everyone else.

In Sickness And In Health - The Christmas Specials [DVD] [1985]
From the days when we all sat around the television on Christmas evening waiting for the families favourite Christmas Special shows to appear comes In Sickness And In Health - The Christmas Specials DVD.
The latest humour on our televisions do not come up to this standard and we now have all forgotten about Christmas Specials on Christmas Day as being a thing of our past.
The In Sickness And In Health DVD shows Alf`s Garnett, (Warren Mitchell) long suffering wife's Else (Dandy Nichols) very last appearance but the strength of Alf held the programme together and rolling along. The series had a grand total of 47 episodes and, unlike its predecessor, all the episodes are known to have survived. Series 3 is due March 30th 2009 thanks once again to the our BBC.
So please watch, remember and feel what real humour was like.

Why is there political correctness?
The first couple were great then they got too slapstick and politically correct. Why can"t we make fun of people because of their race and religion anymore? It is comedy. Read more

In sickness and health christmas special
It was mainly Alf & his wife. I was hoping for more interaction with the family. It is a shame the earlier tapes were wiped. Still had a good laugh though

Great
Classic stuff, modern comedy can't come close to this because of p.c. attempts to control how you think, buy it, it's a great laugh.

Five episodes on this disc and the first two are wonderfully written and funny. The latter three while good do not measure up at all. Read more
