Bought this for my parents wedding anniversary, as a 'stocking filler' if you like. It is simply absolutely brilliant. As someone of a younger/ mid generation, I found all the facts and information fascinating. Horlicks is old!!! My parents however, (who have just turned 60) spent a large part of the film dancing on the sofa! My dad loved the trucks you got in cereal packets, and my mum started screaming when she saw the tokens from Robinsons Marmalade.
I can not recommend this film enough. What a fantastic little find I came across when I discovered this film. Even delivery was quick.

For 2 hours you can you have your own personal time machine when you watch this DVD.
A fantastic nostalgic trip told through packaging of classic discontinued products from cleaning materials to confectionery and lots more, and the amazing history of some of today's best loved products.
This is actually more emotional than It's A Wonderful Life.
Presented by the wonderfully enthusiastic Robert Opie, who runs the excellent Museum of Brands and Packaging in London.

Well this is just amazing!! We all know about the nostalgia of music - how hearing music from times gone by can transport you back in time. Who would have thought that commercial packaging could have the same effect - but it does! Long forgotten brands and labels whisk you back to distant eras of screw top lemonade, vesta curries, and those little saucers you used to use to open bottles of milk. This is a completely magical film and terrific value at the price - two hours plus for the main feature plus lots of extras on disc two. And the sheer quality of the DVD is excellent - I watched it on my Blue-ray DVD player which upscales the quality of the picture to my HD TV and the level of detail captured on screen is fantastic. We live in a throw away society so thanks to Robert Opie for rescuing so many artefacts from times gone by.

So if you want a nostalgic fascinating trip in your personal time machine buy this and enjoy - you won't regret it!

I've got the Robert Opie scrapbooks, but this brings them to life.
This took me right back to my childhood with things I'd forgotten, and it's great to listen to people sharing their memories. There is loads on this DVD but it has lots of chapters so you can easily dip in and out.
It's a shame that they hadn't put in some of the original TV adverts, as I'd love to see the singing Cresta bear from the 1970's again!
This is also a great educational product as Robert Opie is thorough in explaining how and why things originated.

A entertaining look at our relationship with and the history of brands. Watched it with the family and it sparked all sorts of conversations and revealed things we never knew about each other... Brilliant

Loved it - so many memories, and one or two debates settled. Excellently put together and, as a result, a fascinating trip into the past. Can't believe how much I'd forgotten from here, but how great it was being reminded. Recommended for anyone 50+.
Slip the DVD in...bottle of wine, bowl of popcorn and two or three Sanatogen - who could want for more.

Bought it for my wife and was lucky enough to meet the director. What a smashing guy.

It's a great nostalgic trip, clearly designed for a certain generation who will remember a lot on show in this two hour DVD. For more depth though, a Robert Opie book on the subject would be a better choice. Good, but could've been better. So, let's nitpick: the main programme contains too much needless background Muzak. The BBC are excellent at producing great documentaries, so when you find one that isn't, you notice what is missing. Products fly by too quickly here at times and there is practically no archival footage: people shopping, old advertisements or manufacturing/factory images of products being made. The second disc of extras is weak. When you work out its length, it could've all fit on one disc, thereby keeping the cost down. But hey, I said it was nitpicking. Ultimately it's still worth picking up, but I feel there was room for improvement. I only wish someone in this country would get together a DVD of old advertisements, remembered from youth. What is available seems mostly American and of poor, unrestored quality. There's a challenge for Mr. Opie!

I loved everything about this dvd. The delivery was prompt and the quality was excellent. The amount of work to create this dvd was amazing. It was presented well, and I loved every minute of it. I would recommend it to anyone. A great buy. Im looking to purchase some of Robert Opie's books now.
