Annie Bell began her careeer as a chef before becoming a full-time cookery writer and author. She spent several years as cookery writer for Vogue, then as food writer on the Independent. She currently writes for the Mail on Sunday's YOU magazine, and is a contributor to Country Living and Waitrose Kitchen. She was winner of the Guild of Food Writers' Cookery Writer of the Year Award in 2003. She is the author of the Gorgeous series: Gorgeous Cakes, Gorgeous Desserts, Gorgeous Suppers, Gorgeous Greens and Gorgeous Christmas plus Soup Glorious Soup, The Camping Cookbook and The Picnic Cookbook.

About the Author

Annie Bell, having begun her career as a chef, has been a full-time cookery writer and author for more than ten years. She has written a number of books including Annie Bell's Vegetable Book, and Evergreen shortlisted for the Andre Simon and Glenfiddich Awards. She collaborated with the architect John Pawson to write Living and Eating and more recently has written Gorgeous Cakes. She spent several years as Cookery Writer at Vogue, then as Food Writer on the Independent, she is currently the Cookery Writer on YOU Magazine in the Mail on Sunday and also contributes to Country Living and Waitrose Food Illustrated. Annie is married to landscape architect Jonathan Bell, and they have two sons Rothko and Louis. This book is as the title says, a collection of recipes for cooking for friends and family. It is perfect for someone like me who has been cooking for years and who is looking for some new ideas for entertaining, from party snacks to dinner parties. Lots of interesting ingredients used with a bit of a twist - combinations you would not think of yourself. Everything I have made so far has been a great success. I like the insight into Annie Bell's life in France and the snippets of information about typical food in Normandy.
The instructions are straight forward for someone with common sense who already cooks but this is definitely not a cook book for beginners. The photos are lovely, not over styled, and give a realistic idea of the finished dish. There is not a photo for every recipe, which I don't mind, but people used to today's style of cook book may find this odd. This is not a coffee table cook book to be admired and put on display. It is a practical, timeless, hands on book to be used over and over again, year in and year out.
