Veronica is 26, is something, let's say, 'unusual' for a female of that age in this day and age (sorry if that's confusing, trying to avoid a spoiler), and is studying part time on top of working full time. She was once a Little Rich Girl, but it was mum and dad's way or the highway, so she's on her lonesome. One day, after moving into a new place, she spots an antique bed that a voice seems to urge her to buy, so, she goes, and inherits a kind of a lothario of a ghost. Only, she doesn't know she has a ghost - she's thinking that she's seeing and doing things in her sleep.
Anyway, she discovers him, doesn't freak too much, and they agree that they will help each other. He will give her the benefit of his vast experience, by helping her with her assignment, Fifty Steps To Ultimate Sexual Fulfilment, and she will help him find out the fate of his lost love...
The author adds in a guy with a OTT grudge, wielding an axe as his weapon of choice, who is called Norman (but also Jake), who seems to be in awe of his Mommie Dearest, and who's stalking Veronica's...bed. So, the author adds in a little comic relief too (on top of this bit, there's a sex therapist/doc called Dr Weiner!Read more ›
Veronica Parrish works two jobs and school. She was focussed on qualifying as an accountant and the career she wanted - than being a wife and homebody that her Dad wanted her to be. Her parents have disowned her for jilting their choice of husband at the alter, so she has had to learn to be self reliant. She lacks any self belief that she is attractive and thinks she is an overweight, frumpy red head.
With a broken bed and desperate for sleep, she purchases a bed from the second hand store not realising it comes with a sexy 18th century ghost who, in his day, was an established rake and lover of many women. Throw in a stalker, babysitting the twins from hell and having to write an inappropriate essay on 50 ways to sexual fulfillment for her workaholic sex education lecturer. This 26 year old virgin has to embark on a journey of self discovery and falling in love, whilst trying to save the ghost (Valentine Tremaine)from purgatory.
I'm not an avid reader of the paranormal but this has been an exception.
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it, yes the book is based in the 90's but reading the finer print it was originally written in 1999, so you have to expect some of the references to be a bit dated for 2012. That aside, the book is well written and I loved both the characters Ronnie and Val and found myself so wanting them to get together in the mortal world.
Like I said I am not a fan of paranormal books, but this was enough for me to cope with, I wasn't dealing with goblins, faraway lands, vampires etc. So if you perhaps aren't sure about paranormal and want something to start you off then I'd recommend.
