Book Description

The antique bed looked like it was made for passion. And despite its extravagance, sensible Vernoica Parrish couldn't resist buying it. Her first night nestled within the bed gave her dreams of love that shook her to the core. But the man in her dreams is real--a real ghost, that is.

A famed lover throughout New Orleans, Valentine Tremaine was murdered in his bed in 1848 by a woman's protective father outraged at Valentine's amorous adventures. For more than a hundred years Valentine wondered about the legacy he might have left behind--and he won't cross over until he learns the truth. But Veronica's mortal innocence and sweetness--as well as her beauty--stirs his blood like no other woman ever has. And as they delve into history to find the answer to his past, Valentine finds himself wishing for the impossible--a future with Veronica.

The copyright page of this tale tells you that it was written in 1999 and published in 2012. I've seen this happening a lot this year so far (Doreen Malek Owens, glad to see she's still around), but what the authors are not doing is updating the tale for a 2012 market. I don't want to spoil it, so I won't go into too much detail, but dialogue, pop references, the male lead's name (Valentine) and the female lead's 'status' just don't ring true. However, if you allow yourself to suspend disbelief, this is quite an amusing tale, not LOL or ROFLMAO.

Veronica is 26, is something, let's say, 'unusual' for a female of that age in this day and age (sorry if that's confusing, trying to avoid a spoiler), and is studying part time on top of working full time. She was once a Little Rich Girl, but it was mum and dad's way or the highway, so she's on her lonesome. One day, after moving into a new place, she spots an antique bed that a voice seems to urge her to buy, so, she goes, and inherits a kind of a lothario of a ghost. Only, she doesn't know she has a ghost - she's thinking that she's seeing and doing things in her sleep.

Anyway, she discovers him, doesn't freak too much, and they agree that they will help each other. He will give her the benefit of his vast experience, by helping her with her assignment, Fifty Steps To Ultimate Sexual Fulfilment, and she will help him find out the fate of his lost love...

The author adds in a guy with a OTT grudge, wielding an axe as his weapon of choice, who is called Norman (but also Jake), who seems to be in awe of his Mommie Dearest, and who's stalking Veronica's...bed. So, the author adds in a little comic relief too (on top of this bit, there's a sex therapist/doc called Dr Weiner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!! 16 Sept. 2013

If you want an enjoyable chick lit read - then this is one for you!!

Veronica Parrish works two jobs and school. She was focussed on qualifying as an accountant and the career she wanted - than being a wife and homebody that her Dad wanted her to be. Her parents have disowned her for jilting their choice of husband at the alter, so she has had to learn to be self reliant. She lacks any self belief that she is attractive and thinks she is an overweight, frumpy red head.

With a broken bed and desperate for sleep, she purchases a bed from the second hand store not realising it comes with a sexy 18th century ghost who, in his day, was an established rake and lover of many women. Throw in a stalker, babysitting the twins from hell and having to write an inappropriate essay on 50 ways to sexual fulfillment for her workaholic sex education lecturer. This 26 year old virgin has to embark on a journey of self discovery and falling in love, whilst trying to save the ghost (Valentine Tremaine)from purgatory.

I'm not an avid reader of the paranormal but this has been an exception.

4.0 out of 5 stars In the Midnight Hour 24 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't usually like paranormal, science fiction or any fantasy type books. However, I read the spiel about this book and was intrigued enough to buy it as it was a freebie.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it, yes the book is based in the 90's but reading the finer print it was originally written in 1999, so you have to expect some of the references to be a bit dated for 2012. That aside, the book is well written and I loved both the characters Ronnie and Val and found myself so wanting them to get together in the mortal world.

Like I said I am not a fan of paranormal books, but this was enough for me to cope with, I wasn't dealing with goblins, faraway lands, vampires etc. So if you perhaps aren't sure about paranormal and want something to start you off then I'd recommend.
