Product Description

Product Description

When the unconscious figure of an angel inexplicably appears in their midst, the inhabitants of the small town of Utopia find their lives disrupted in unexpected ways. Inspired by the magic realism of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, “In the Matter of Fallen Angels” uses the lens of the extraordinary to celebrate the simple, everyday pleasures of ordinary life.

“Reporting deadpan on what happens when the townsfolk find an angel recumbent in the yard behind the general store, Jacqueline Carey channels the affectionate humor of Mark Twain... Carey writes like a dream. The result is enchantment.” – Los Angeles Times

New York Times bestselling author Jacqueline Carey is most known for her historical fantasy series, “Kushiel’s Legacy.”

I don't know what to think. I loved the descriptions of the world, the characters and their actions. Classic Jacqueline Carey writing. But I was left wanting more. I don't know what else to say about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical 2 May 2012

Why did the mysterious angel fall into this small town? Were the tiny miracles happening to the residents part of his being here? I loved that Angie tried... I loved that Quinn was a quiet hero who persevered and followed his heart. In the Matter of Fallen Angels: A Short Story can be read over a cup of coffee. It should be read to remember that magic can happen in one's life every day. Thanks Jacqueline Carey for another beautiful read. The Messenger's Handbook
5.0 out of 5 stars an interesting question 10 July 2014

An interesting short story and a good question. What happens when an angle falls to earth? I love Jacqueline Carey and will continue to read her stories as long as she writes
2.0 out of 5 stars strange story ... the truth is out there, just not in this story 13 Nov 2013

Just about the time this gets going, it stops. Little plot connecting odd vinghnettes. Yes, it is an odd spelling, but it is an odd story. Almost like a twain story or o. Henry, but never gets there.
4.0 out of 5 stars Odd but very atmospheric 9 Sep 2013

This is a delightful short story set in the Midwest. The atmosphere of a small town is beautifully portrayed and the characters are both real and interesting. However, don't expect to learn any lessons without effort - the story ends with a question.
