Review

'a magical, mystical tale of enchantment' (The School Librarian)

'a very elegant and enjoyable novel' (The Guardian 2004-04-24)

An exciting story ... In Hollow Lands will probably prove to be one of the richest literary feasts in 2004 for younger teenage readers. (Canberra Times 2004-03-01)

THE TEMPESTUOUS VOYAGE OF HOPEWELL SHAKESPEARE:
'Masterly' (The Times 2003-05-01)

'A refreshing, bracing, venturesome book, with a touch of Stevenson's Treasure Island thrown in for good measure (Carousel 2003-05-01)

PRAISE FOR SOPHIE MASSON (2003-05-01)

'Reading one of Sophie Masson's books is like standing on top of a lonely mountain at midnight, under a star-filled sky... Her work has that same sense of clarity, magic and mystery...' (Garth Nix, author of Sabriel 2003-05-01)

CARABAS: 'It is well written and the detail of court life and ways is enthralling. This book will appeal to anyone who has loved the fairytale, for all the trappings are present and correct. A fabulous novel which has been given the cover it deserves.' (Adele Geras, TES 2002-06-01)

I really enjoyed this book. Marketted, as so many fantasy novels are, as Young Adult, it could be enjoyed by anyone who loves fairy stories and folklore. The place is Brittany, the time, the fourteenth century. There is a manor-house where two children live with their aristocratic parents and a nanny. In the nearby forest is a parallel world of korrigans, hermits, spells. Beauty lives alongside danger. One day, the children encounter the korrigans. The psychology is excellent, the atmosphere is. . . spellbinding.
Sophie Masson has written several other books. I'm off to read them.
