This is Hair metal at it's best. Well crafted songs, great riffs, strong choruses, and as good a ballad as you can get this side of Poison.
On this album Winger improved the production quality, began to move aay from the cliches of pop rock (although Can't Get Enough and Little Dirty Blonde remain as reminders of the era), and on Rainbow in the Rose, they created one of the best songs of the genre.

Despite its 1990's release, 'In the Heart of the Young' is a reminder of how good 80's rock could be when at its peak. Kip Winger has since gone on to prove his craftmanship with a series of excellent solo efforts, in addition to other Winger albums but 'In the Heart' remains a timeless bonafide classic. The critics will tell you that 'Pull' is Winger's finest moment to date (despite the poor record sales), however, for me this album is not just Winger's best but also one of the genres leaders. It's an album that has everything for the melodic rock/hair metal connosieur. Killer ballad (Miles Away), stadium rocker (Can't Get Enuff), foot stomper (Easy Come Easy Go) and others such as 'Under One Condition' & 'In the Heart of the Young' which simply ooze songwriting class. Kip Winger has a vocal range which reaches places others dream of and the musicianship and production is superb. As my favourite band, it's fair to say that that they have no peer, but if you're a fan of early Bon Jovi, Danger Danger, Giant and the like then buy this immediately. I'm almost certain that had Beavis & Buthead not added their support to Lars Ulrich's condemnation of all things Winger then this band would have been huge. As it was, despite a flirtation with the big time they never quite became the next Aerosmith or Def Leppard. Shame, as i can think of no band who are more deserving of the very biggest stage.

This is by far my favourite winger album and every track is excellent. There is a great ballad on the album called Miles Away. The rest is just great guitar work and pounding rock.
