5.0 out of 5 stars south african death squad revelations 20 Aug 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Yes buy it ! This is one of the best books on the subject, not dry or theoretical, but packed full of names and details of operations. The first few chapters deal with the career of Dirk Coetzee, former head of a security police death squad called vlakplaas(name of the headquarters near Pretoria). He gives explicit details of operations to anti apartheid jouralist Jacques Pauw. Chapter 9 gives details of the Civil Co operation Bureau, another hit squad, controlled by army special forces. Structure, names, operations, its all here. Chapters on destabilization of neighbouring countries and the Harms Commission(an ineffective 1990 government enquiry into the revelations). Finally, lists of assassinations of anti apartheid activists. Definitely recommended reading.
