3.0 out of 5 stars Good for self help but not the best for understanding this job type 27 Jan 2011
By Book Imp - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Let me start by saying that this is not a bad book but it is really more of a self help journal. A great majority of the book is more along the lines of it asking questions and you writing down your answers and doing exercises. Most of the information is the same that you would find in any marriage counseling/self help book. It touches briefly on subjects such as sex, anger, finances, and a bit on how to communicate. The rest of the book deals with how to calm your fears and stress and deal with your spouses dangerous job in a calm way. Also how to deal with the reality that your spouse could die. It touches on how to help your children cope with their father's job as well.
This is a self help book strictly for the helping the wife not an explanation on your spouse's job and how to help him deal. If that is what you are looking for then this will be good either by using alone for self therapy or in addition to counselor therapy. If you are dealing with a lot of worry, fear or depression from your spouses job then this is a good place to start or even if you are a brand new spouse of a high-risk profession worker and have personal concerns. If it is a case where you are needing marriage or communication help than use this (for yourself) in addition to another book like " Getting the Love you Want" (for both)

If you are wanting an entailed explanation of specific high risk jobs and the stress that they deal with you will need to find another book, i.e. "I Love A Cop" for LEO wives
