Natalie Lindstrom has a gift: the power to speak to the dead, to solve crimes by interviewing murder victims. But now Natalie wants to escape, from the voices that fill her head, and from the organisation that has used her as a crime-solving tool - and who now wants to recruit her daughter. So Natalie takes a job as far from crime and punishment as she can get: with an archaeologist in the mountains of Peru. Her job: to find a trove of priceless artifacts - by channelling those who lived and died at an ancient Incan site.
But in the towering Andes, Natalie enters a 500-year-old storm of betrayal, murder, greed, and rage - and she cannot silence the voices of the dead. The slaughtered reach out to her. The slaughterers boast of their crimes. Alone, cut off from her family, Natalie faces a chilling realisation: every truth she uncovers is leading her one step closer to a terror beyond imagining.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series that I read so when I unfortunately missed the second, I was a tad worried that the third would lose me and ruin what was a great memory. Luckily for me, it didn't with the return of vulnerable powerful seers who not only endear themselves through their vulnerability but also with their courage. It's an absolute corker of a read with great pace, lulls as well as high action points and perhaps best of all allows the heroine to grow. Add to the mix beautifully utilised info dumps that don't over burden the reader but enhance the overall arc and you've got a story that will definitely keep those pages turning long into the night.
This is the third book in a series about Natalie Lindstrom who has a gift/curse. Natalie has the power to speak to the dead, to solve crimes by interviewing murder victims. But now she wants to escape the voices that fill her head and the organization that has used her and now wants to recruit her daughter. So Natalie takes an unofficial job with an archaeologist in the mountains of Peru. She is to find a trove of priceless artifacts-by channeling those who lived and died at an ancient Incan site in the Andes. Natalie finds herself in a fight for her life when she discovers thing aren't what they should be. Alone, cut off from her family, Natalie faces a chilling realization that things will never be the same again. This is a thriller/paranormal story which twists and turns. Well worth reading the first two in the series first. 1) Through violet eyes 2) With red hands

5.0 out of 5 starsThird Time's a Golden Charm25 Oct 2005

The highly anticipated third novel in the popular Violet series has finally arrived. It's definitely worth the wait.
This time, Woodworth takes star dead-talker Natalie Lindstrom on a thrilling yet dangerous adventure. In this book, Natalie is still besieged by government intimidation, family problems, and growing money worries. A generous financial offer by a mysterious multi-millionaire leads her to accept a not-strictly-legal freelance assignment in the Peruvian Andes, channeling the dead to help locate a priceless centuries-old treasure. But all that glitters is not gold as ancient bitterness and present-day greed threaten Natalie, forcing her to make a choice that will change her forever.
Reading In Golden Blood really is like going away on a trip to a dangerous country. This book is a change of pace from the previous two novels because it involves more adventure than murder mystery, but there is still murder, mayhem and action a-plenty. As with the previous Violet novels, Woodworth's trademark breathless style keeps the story fast moving, yet suspenseful. The result is a decadent treat-easily finished within a few hours, yet satisfying and thought provoking.
Especially brilliant is the way Woodworth allows us to understand the character of Natalie Lindstrom-a woman who, despite her beauty and her natural gifts, is still vulnerable to the same temptations as ordinary people and is all the more likeable because of it. Highly recommended-you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 starsstrong supernatural thriller25 Oct 2005
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In another age they would have been called witches or people possessed by demons but today through the use of the soul scan there is scientific proof that the souls of the dead inhabit the bodies of those who are alive. These people are called Violets because of the color of their eyes and because there are so few of them. The government of each country puts them under their "protection". Natalie Lindstrom, whose body is inhabited by the souls of those who were murdered, was allowed to testify in court, the spirits accusing their killer and the court accepted the evidence of each soul.
Natalie, tired of death and dealing with killers, leave the North American Afterlife Communication Corps to become a freelancer but the NAACC blackballs her and she is unable to find work. She is so in debt she accepts a job offer by a man pretending to be Dr. Wilcox, an expert on the explorer Pizarro. Nathan Azure, his patron, flees her to the Andes in Peru so she can channel Pizarro and find out where he hid a cache of Inca treasure. While in Peru, Natalie catches on to their scheme and with the help of the spirit of the real Dr. Wilcox, devises a plan to escape and bring the fake Wilcox and Azure down.
This supernatural thriller starts off at mach one and only moves faster giving the audience an exciting read with plenty of action scenes and a heroine one admires (because she quits an organization that wants to control her). Her courage, strength and decency make her an excellent role model that readers will care about. Stephen Woodworth makes the implausible seem very real.

This was a good entry in the violet series. Although it's not my favorite in the series, it's still a great read. For those who like the first two Violet series...you shouldn't sheed away from this one. It keeps pace with Natalie's life and you actually get to witness callie grow up a little more. I must say, the pace is a little odd. Not hard to keep up with and not too slow. Just kind of off. But like I said, if you wanna keep up with the series...don't skip this one. If you're new to the series...don't skip ahead. Read the first two first (Through Violet Eyes and With Red Hands). You'll thank me.
