Book Description

24 Dec 2012 I Spy Something
THE I SPY STORIES -- I SPY SOMETHING BLOODY Espionage was always a game, but now British spy Mark Hardwicke wants to retire and settle down with ex-lover Dr. Stephen Thorpe -- if Stephen will have him. Unfortunately, Stephen has other plans -- and so do the terrorists who want Mark dead. I SPY SOMETHING WICKED It's All Hallow's Eve and Mark Hardwicke's past has come back to haunt him. The Old Man needs Mark to go on one last mission to the wild, lonely hills of Afghanistan -- a mission Mark knows he can't survive. Even if he does make it back, Stephen has made it very clear Mark is out of second chances. Should Mark place his lover and his own happiness before duty? I SPY SOMETHING CHRISTMAS Nothing says Christmas like a bullet with your name on it. Mark is used to death and danger. Stephen will never be okay with violence -- or Mark's attitude toward it. Like the holidays weren't tough enough on a romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lanyon at his best 6 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've read most of Josh Lanyon's book and I can safely say that these 3 stories are my favourite. They're all written in such a sensual way that every word feels like a caress. I listened to book 1 I spy Something Bloody as an audio book and I highly recommend it. I highly recommend any of Josh's audio books as a matter of fact. He chooses his narrators so well that they always fit the story and the characters perfectly.
If you're a fan of Lanyon's, don't hesitate to buy this collections. I know it found its way to my heart and my favourites shelf and will stay there for good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of Lanyon's form 27 Jan 2013

Romance and spying - an unbeatable mixture. As always, Lanyon's characters are vivid and his worlds engrossing. I had these books in ebooks but it's good to have the hard copy as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy for the compilation 27 Jan 2013
By Christie - Published on Amazon.com

I have the ebooks but I admit I really like these in a paperback compilation (yes, I still prefer paper to ebook formats). They also read as if Josh Lanyon is done with this particular series, which I enjoyed very much. Again, nice to have the three stories in one volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Three short stories 15 Jan 2013
By Keri - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I liked this book, but as I explain below, I had problems with it; otherwise, I would give it 5 stars. Other reviewers will explain the plot and action.

I, mistakenly, thought this was the first book in a trilogy. Instead, there are three short stories. I very seldom read short stories because as soon as you're well acquainted with the characters and plot the story ends. I read the Adrien English series and I think they are very good; especially the second one at the ranch. I very much wish the author would write a full length novel, say, about 400 to 600 pages. I read his longer book, Strange Fortune, which, unfortunately, is nothing like his other books. His characters are interesting in his other books, he has humor and the day-to-day happenings make the reader feel a part of the story.

I really didn't like the cover art. I thought it looked cheap and trashy.
4.0 out of 5 stars British Spy Moves from Afghanistan to Virginia 10 Oct 2013
By Teast - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This volume of 3 stories is about the romance between Mark Hardwicke, British operative, and the much older Virginia physician Stephen Thorpe. The stories are sequential and occur within a 7 months period. A great deal of the first story is told in flashbacks, and most of the action and facts are provided in the thoughts of Mark, explaining how this operative came from a failed mission in Afghanistan wounded and bruised to the Shenandoah Valley home of his former partner. Stephen did not want him back after a breakup with Mark over his returning to the spy game 2 years before. Mark saw Stephen’s house as his only home and went to heal and woo him back. The stories contain danger, doubts, and general disapproval of Mark’s actions by everyone else.
There are some problems with the book editorially. The many flashbacks and episodic segments can be confusing, especially when the printing left so much white space at the bottom of many pages, making it appear to be the end of an episode. While Lanyon had someone with knowledge of British idioms check the writing to make Mark’s British voice authentic, there were errors such as calling Afghanis “Arabs” and having Mark book a flight from western Virginia to Dulles via Norfolk on the coast.
This volume is quite different from other books by Lanyon in style and subject matter. It is to be the first of a series. It seems hard to know where the stories will go, though a prequel would works as there is much left untold from the beginning of the relationship and the decade of secretive operation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Collection of Josh Lanyons I Spy Stories 25 Feb 2013
By K. C. Fraser - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A Josh Lanyon collection that is great. It is a great way to follow the characters through their lives of getting back together amid the exciting escapades of trying to come in from the cold! An very enjoyable read, as with all Mr. Lanyon's work the characters become favorites.
