Fantastic selection of poems but it has a variety of background music or sounds, such as feet stomping in mud, or instruments trying to recreate the sounds of the battlefield, all of which I find quite annoying. This, combined with the style of speaking of one or two of the readers, and the fact that a young female voice introduces each track at the beginning (jolting you out of your reverie), makes me uninclined to listen to this CD again.
I really like listening to Radio 4's 'Poetry Please' or Radio 3's 'Words and Music' and was hoping for something similar - something that would wash over me, just simple words, clearly spoken, with no other sounds to distract. Unfortunately this isn't it.
This is all highly subjective, of course. Just make sure you listen to a sample before you buy it, to see whether it is to your liking.

A Excellent collection of familiar and unfamiliar WW1 poems recited superbly by several new voices. As a collector of recorded poetry recitals from 78rpm record to the most modern format I recommend this collection as one of the best available

Poetically yours
