About the Author

Jim Carnegie is a semi-retired schoolteacher. He has been married for 34 years, and has a daughter and a son. To avoid gardening and DIY, he has played club cricket for almost half a century in both halves of the country. As his eyesight and hearing begin to fail, he now feels qualified to umpire as well as play.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read 9 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
Having played league cricket in the North West In 2 of the same clubs as the Author I really enjoyed the stories and having to guess the identities of the victims :D
Very enjoyable, a book I couldn't put down. You don't have to know the people to enjoy this book either, the characters from Yorkshire and the South didnt mean anything to me , but I enjoyed getting to know them through the authors writings.

5.0 out of 5 stars I cried laughing 11 May 2010
Format:Paperback
Delivered superbly! Does exactly what it sets out to do, provide a light hearted slant on the absurdities of amateur cricket and the eccentricities of amateur cricketers.

It proves that there are as many loonies absorbed by the game down south as there are up here in the north.

I read this on holiday and was thoroughly entertained, I cried laughing on several occasions

5.0 out of 5 stars A different league altogether! 16 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
Anybody who has enjoyed playing, watching, talking about or reading about league cricket will find this book hugely entertaining! Drawing on several decades of playing at a high standard - often against the biggest names of their respective generations - Jim Carnegie has stored a wonderful stock of anecdote and observation. A wicked sense of humour and an acute sense of the absurd equips the author to recount a selection of these in a manner which is always engaging but never malicious.
This book deserves to become a classic of the cricketing canon!
