4.0 out of 5 stars More romance in the "Dirk & Steele" world 4 Dec 2010
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Jenny is 12 years old when she discovers the beautiful blue eyed boy with a silver tail wounded on a beach. Helpless when he is dragged back into the ocean by another merman, Jenny never forgets the boy and shapes her life around finding him.

16 years later Jenny is still on the hunt for merfolk. Growing up as part of the family that founded good guys the Dirk and Steele Agency and A Priori plus bad guys the Consortium, Jenny is an ordinary girl coping in an extraordinary family. She's friends with shape shifters and telekinetics, but Jenny is blessed with nothing more than a determination to find her blue eyed boy.

Perrin has spent 8 years exiled from the ocean, but now with the fate of the world as stake, plus a feeling that someone very special to him is in trouble, he faces the dangers the oceans hold. He is soon united with his beloved Jenny and together they face a variety of enemies that are either trying to kidnap them, kill them or split them up.

Jenny and Perrin are a wonderful couple. Their romance is far more mental than physical, as they both lower their barriers to reveal their most poignant heartaches and vulnerabilities to each other. Expect the action fuelled plot and save the world from destruction finale, but Jenny and Perrin's relationship definitely takes centre stage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dreamy 4 Oct 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book starts off with a twelve year old Jenny finding a young boy on a beach, scared and alone, and he had a tail! She is immeadiatly intrigued by the young merman and tries to help him, until a man comes out of the ocean (tail and all) and drags the young boy back into the water.
For the next 8 years they shared dreams, never being able to fully see the others faces, until one day the dreams stopped, leaving them both alone and grieving for what they have lost.
Now, 8 years later, Jenny is still searching for the boy who she met on the beach and has been looking for ever since.
Flash to Perrin, who has been exiled from the ocean for the past eight years after committing a crime that merpeople consider unforgivable.
After a couple of events happen, Perrin realises that the man that has been dragged out of the ocean knows the girl he met all those years ago, now a woman: Jenny.
Sensing she is in trouble he goes searching for her. Of course both are a little shocked by this link and finding each other after all the years.
But now they have bigger problems as the creature the merpeople have been trying to hide all these years is awakening from his slumber and the one thing that can stop it has dissapeared. Or is actually closer than anyone thinks?

I enjoyed this book so much. Jenny is funny and independant without being annoying like so many writers accidently make their characters when trying to create a strong and independant female lead. Jenny has the right balance of being independant and knowing when she's in over her head.
Perrin is our tortured hero, exiled from his home and haunted by the crimes of his past both of them worry that the other would judge them.
Which Is what leads me to say what I didn't like and what kept it from being rated 5 stars. After searching for 16 years you'd think these two people would be happy to see each other, but they treat each other with distrust and fear most of the time. I wanted to scream at both of them that this is what you've always wanted, why are you being so difficult about it?
What I loved though was Perrins big, bad secret that he was so ashamed of is what I loved and that no reader will hate him for the dark, horrifying secret. It will just make you love him all the more.
I enjoyed this book, I just wish they would both have trusted each other and their love a little more from the beginning.
