Product Description

CD Description

* In 1970, Decca released a 12-track album of Rick Nelson, recorded live at Los Angeles' Troubadour. In 1990, Mac released a CD version , but this is long deleted. Ace is proud to bring you a deluxe, 42-track version.

* Rick's fans will love to hear the original album, With 10 superbly re-mastered alternate tracks, as well as a complete further live show of yet 20 more alternate performances from the same set of concerts held at the Troubadour between 29 October and 2 November 1969. All recorded with a terrific band sounding a lot more intimate straight off the original 8-track masters, beautifully remixed and newly mastered.

* The second disc contains Rick's spoken introductions and between-song commentaries, providing an intimate and historical portrait of a great performer.

* This concert marked the debut of the Stone Canyon Band - ex-Poco and future Eagle Randy Meisner on bass and backing vocals, Allen Kemp on lead guitar, Patrick Shanahan at the drums, and Tom Brumley on steel guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Stone Canyon Band kicks out the Jams 10 Feb 2011
By Maclen
Format:Audio CD
The expanded and REMIXED "Rick Nelson In Concert, The Troubadour 1969" is everything you could hope for in a long lost concert. Rick was scheduled to do four days worth of sets at the Troubadour in Los Angeles in November 1969. It contains stellar performances and the Remixed sound is pristine. The First CD is the original 12 Song CD plus an additional 10 performances, they do not try to append them to the original tracks and in fact each extra song is edited by itself. The quality is sterling, easily as good as the "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out" remaster from the same time period. The 2nd CD is the goods, it's a complete show with all the in between banter included in breath taking quality. Depending on how well you like country Rock (I do), it's top drawer all the way. Rick is in fine voice and the newly minted Stone Canyon Band is getting their debut here. The band is not officially called that at this point, but as I understand it, they refer to themselves as the Stone Canyon Band as they rehearse at Rick's house on Stone Canyon Drive in the Hollywood Hills. If you're a fan of Country Rock at it's very finest, this CD is for you. Brilliant and inspired performances. Rick was at the front of the line in creating Country Rock. It all begins here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ace Release 10 Feb 2011
Format:Audio CD
This is a magnificent and important release which rightly sets the second phase of Rick's career in its historical context. Listening to the many superb performances here it is difficult to believe that the band had formed in its entirety so close to the concerts. Tom Brumley, the steel player had signed up only days before and he is outstanding, yet obviously feeling his way as his fills and licks differ even when playing the same song. Rick was never in better voice and clearly wanted this to work out and it does. Song selection is just right, some self penned, some covers and great reworking of early hits. My congratulations to those who painstakingly compiled this release the first disc is great, the second a revelation. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem 19 Feb 2011
By Perkins
Format:Audio CD
Well, what is there to say, another brilliant release by ACE Records. A thoughtful and innovative package that the majority of Nelson fans will declare is long overdue. As stated by earlier reviewers, the original album tracks are here, plus alternative takes recorded over the period of Ricks performances at the Troubadour. The accompanying twenty page booklet is a delight, informative and peppered with photos that the majority of Nelson fans will not have seen before. Great credit to ACE Records for bringing this project to fruition, but credit must also go to the compilers Iain Young and Pete Kirkpatrick for their knowledgable and informative liner notes. A Gem.
