Perhaps you only know the Corries through "Flower of Scotland".This CD includes an excellent live version of what is now Scotland's de facto national anthem; but much more. The CD is two very different albums that help explain The Corries in a musical and historical context.
The first album was recorded live in Edinburgh (date unspecified). It displays the Corries' musical inventivenes and genuine skill, highlighting Roy Williamson's unique, bittersweet vocals, set against a rapport with an enthralled audience. The second is a 1969 recording of traditional Scottish ballads that shows their passion to enjoy and develop their own cultural traditions and present them to a wider audience.
Through both albums one can begin to understand the parallel and symbiotic relationship between a rise in Scottish cultural self-awareness, and a demand for more political autonomy, in which The Corries have had a signifcant role. When they began recording in the 60s, neither Scottish culture or nationalist politics were fashionable. The popularity of "Flower of Scotland" is a sign that both have become so.

I felt this CD was described in a misleading way. The picture implied there were 2 CDs when in fact there was one. I emailed to enquire and was sent another copy which I did not ask for and I had to return one. My enquiry could have been answered by email and saved me and them time.
However I am enjoying listening to the CD.

Wonderful renditions of Scottish classics 13 April 1999
By nernst@flatbush.org - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Contains the Tiree love song, the Skye Boat Song, and Ae Fond Kiss, among others. The "In Concert" portion of the album is excellent as well, although one may tire of the spoken parts after several listenings. If you have any interest at all in Scottish folk music, buy this disk.

They are the BEST! 30 Aug. 2003
By Blaine T. Donald - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Ever since my first visit to Scotland in 1967,with my Mom, I have loved The Corries. My fist album was "Those Wild Corries" and I have continued to build upon my collection. Now I am slowly updating my collection with CDs. As with any of their live performances, they put on a rousing show. They are hard to beat. An excellent mix of songs, stories....ballads, love songs and battle cries, they offer an excellent mix!

This is the best collection of the 'softer side' of the Corries I have heard. If you love Scottish/Irish folk, then buy it!

Classic! 14 Aug. 2006
By Ryan Hicks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album is tops! The word, "classic" is overused, but in this case it is spot on. Beautiful harmoines, playing and songs. My personal favourites are "Sally Free and Easy" and "Flower of Scotland".

Love The Corries. The songs are fun and singable and the comedy pieces between songs are fun to listen to.
