I caught a live performance by dEUS on late night TV whilst channel surfing in 1996 - They were fantastic. I bought this album the next day and I still listen to it even now. I am reviewing this album because it has been part of my life for so long.

Describing dEUS isn't easy. There are shades of everything from art-rock to hip-hop, jazz and raucous punk, but comparing dEUS to these stereotypical genres hardly does them justice. Put simply - dEUS are very unique. Nothing stays the same for long and the music is consistently engaging and emotional - There are no fillers on this album.

When you first hear 'In A Bar, Under the Sea' it's hard to understand why dEUS are not hugely famous - The music is that good. The songs on this record are varied, exceptionally well written and successfully experimental without being self-indulgent. The music is performed with passion. It's also an album you can listen to from beginning to end without skipping anything. It flows very effectively.

If you haven't heard the band before, find 'Little Arithmetics' or 'Theme From Turnpike'. Both songs are stand-out tracks from this release and they represent just two of the many different musical flavours on offer.

I loved this band back in the mid-to-late 1990s and this album, along with the debut album Worst Case Scenario were,i feel some of the best recordings to come out of that mid-late 90s period.I remember hearing when Deus appeared on the scene record company types descended on Deus's hometown of Antwerp thinking there might be a 'scene' with some similarly innovative bands but they found nothing because Deus were/are a unique band.

This is the best dEUS album and one of the best albums I have ever listened to. It's calmer than their first album and thus good for everyone who loves harmonic, intelligent music. 'Disappointed by the Sun' is one of the best song ever written.

From the dark corners of Antwerp(Belgium)comes this brilliant collage of alternative sound. This is possibly the finest European LP of the Nineties embracing folk, rock, jazz and general madness. The overall atmosphere is dark and brooding but this makes it even better.Deus are the future of European rock and can count Micheal Stipe of REM as a big fan.Essential purchase for a Belgian slant on this alt-rock thang!
