Book Description

Sep 1997
This work contains data and material on the exploits of gallantry and the awards made to the RAF Regiment and its Associated Forces between 1921 and 1995. The author consulted a minimum of four sources for each individual and then engaged in cross-referencing with other sources including surviving official records, to produce an account of each person's exploit. Previously unpublished citations are included. Each story tells of individual human endeavour, leadership, courage and devotion to duty. Many of the deeds were performed, not by full-time or regular members of the services but by men called up for the duration of World War II, or on other short term engagements. In this context they only serve to highlight the professionalism and performance of duty. A register of awards accompanies each main chapter. The book is intended to be not merely a record of exploits of gallantry, but also to provide a more general overview of operations and tasks conducted by the RAF Regiment and its Associated Forces.
