By Mr. Jonathan Clark VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
The finest day of my short 17 years. Did it rain? Did I care?
I was soaked to the skin and covered in mud but I had just seen the finestrock concert of the decade and I would have died happy. And then the cdcame out. Sound slightly better than the recording I made from the radioon my home tape recorder but still a fine souvenir.
The music still sends shivers up my spine, especially that Hammond organ.Shame the Beeb lost the tapes of Woman from Tokyo and Under the Gun.
Music 5/5, memories 5/5, sound 2/5.

Memories. 16 Dec 2005
Format:Audio CD
I was at Knebworth on that cold wet day. Almost went home at one point, but deep purple were worth the wait. Then almost 20 years on I find that the concert is on CD. It brought back some wonderfull memories of being there. It's not the best recording in the world, but it still hits the mark for me. Watch out for an ear splitting solo scream from Ian Gillan at the end of strange kind of woman. Ritchie Blackmores guitar solo was a bit of a let down though. John Lord's keyboard solo was terific.
All in all well worth having. Much easier listening to it at home in the warm, other than on that wet June day.

Its been 12 years since Purple mkII broke up, but now the're back! The band made their re-union intentions clear with the studio LP Perfect Strangers, which is best described as majestic.
The same can't quite be said about this offering, though emotional as it is (first gig in uk for ages) Purple seem to struggle a little with the bad weather & sound, the latter mainly caused by some locals who wanted the group turned down which is quite evident (lazy riff a bit out of sync.) But the band stick to the job in hand and yes, its a little scrappy in places and no, it's not quite Made in Japan, but it does offer exciting listening. The new numbers slot into the set quite comfortably and a cracking Speed King sets up the encores nicely.
The main disappointment is the sound mixed for audio which by BBC standards, are a let down. The BBC erased a couple of numbers from the original recording which resulted in some ugly editing after Perfect Strangers. However, the set is still long enough for 2 discs which represents great value and a place in your collction.
