If you wear glasses you may be doing so unnecessarily. Worse still, you are likely to be caught in a downward spiral that may actually cause your sight to deteriorate so that you require stronger and stronger lenses. But did you know that 75 per cent of those who try the Bates method find their sight noticeably improves? Many can even stop wearing glasses altogether. 'Improve Your Eyesight' presents the Bates method for today - simply, concisely and practically. No specialist knowledge is required, no complicated equipment. All you need is in this book, including a set of graded eye-testing charts and a series of exercises that will help you to re-educate your eyes safely and naturally. Working on the exercises for just half an hour each day, and learning to apply some simple techniques in your everyday life, you have every chance of achieving partial or complete success. The Bates method can help all the common faults of eyesight - short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism and 'old-age' sight. Thousands of people who have practised it, including the author, no longer wear glasses. You could be one of them, and remember that the technique cannot harm your eyes - it is perfectly safe.

Amazon Review

Jonathan Barnes, author of Improve your Eyesight is a living testament to the Bates Method: he says that his eyesight has improved considerably since he started using the special techniques, and that he no longer needs to wear his glasses.

The Bates Method is best described as a plan for re-educating your eyesight, with errors which cause short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism and "old-age sight" corrected by a range of techniques which promote the healing and self-regulatory powers of the body and encourage the reduction or, in some cases, the elimination of the error.

Barnes walks the reader through the history and theory behind the method, which works on the basis that the fundamental problems with anyone's eyesight begins with "strain", before beginning his explanations of the techniques involved.

Improve your Eyesight is a fascinating book which offers hope to people who struggle with poor eyesight, but is perhaps most effective for people whose eyes are simply tired from the stress and strains of everyday life, from pollution to sitting in front of a computer screen.

In truth, everyone, no matter how sceptical, can benefit from Improve your Eyesight, as each of the techniques leave your eyes feeling clear and refreshed, and at the end of a hard day, isn't that what we all long for?. --Susan Harrison

About the Author

Jonathan Barnes's own poor eyesight, combined with his biologist's curiosity and his frustration at previously published accounts of the Bates method, caused him to write this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review 7 Jan 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Very interesting book. I admit to having being highly sceptical to start but it really does work. Essentially, focusses (no pun intended!) on re-training the eyes not to be lazy. Contains practical exercises (some are bit complicated though), tailored to the types of vision defect you have and also provides charts to keep checking your vision. Vision re-checking can become a bit obsessive!

5.0 out of 5 stars Improve your eyesight - id really works 15 April 2010
Format:Paperback
My eyesight has been getting progressively worse for many years. I was wearing vary-focal glasses or bi-focal lenses. Without them I felt like I was helpless and could only focus a few meters away.

After being rejected for eye surgery I thought I had to try something. I therefore bought the book 'Improve your Eyesight' and read it with skepticism.

I have been without glasses or contact lenses for a month now. I have been doing the exercises (and resting of the eyes) regularly (not as often as the book tells me to) and I've got to say I can see again. Not perfectly but I know each day my eyes get a little better and at times I get flashes of perfect clear vision. So much of this improvement is down to the mind and how you approach your self improvement.

I am short sighted (not as much as a month ago) and following the instructions regarding Sunning and Palming it has really made a big difference.

The best money I have spent

4.0 out of 5 stars It works 8 Nov 2008

I bought this book a few years ago due to presbyopia. I also attended a workshop on the Bates Method (on which this book is based). My eyesight has improved considerably & I hardly use glasses now - previously could not read or use the computer without glasses. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seriously thinking of using a natural method to improve their eyesight.
