Implementing CIPT1 24 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Only book from Cisco available for CUCM v6. Aimed at the CIPT1 exam so covers lots of topics but not in great depth and misses out popular subjects such as Extension Mobility which are in the CIPT2 exam. Spoilt by numerous proof reading errors. For example test questions with no correct answer, questions from previous chapters copied across, and figures in the chapters either missing, incorrectly numbered or never referred to in the text.

Format:Hardcover
As a multi Cisco 'professional' series accreditation holder, I have read many books to provide reference and self-study material, and can say with some confidence that some are poor and some are good in delivering their content.

This book for me fits in the middle of the scale. Whilst it does provide the basics in terms of covering the menu system and a brief explanation of how to achieve configurations through it, there are too few real world examples and scenarios for such a complex topic. I feel this would have benefited from a small real world example company (two sites, one a central call manager, the other a hub) with each topic building on the last to knit together a configuration that when complete would deliver an objective. As it is, the whole feels less than the sum of it's parts, and gives no confidence to the reader that a connected environment is being built.

This may well be difficult, and add to the bulk of such a book, but the Cisco Press books are not cheap, and reliance is placed on them by their audience to deliver content so that exams can be attempted or real world systems can be visualised and built.

Praise be for CBT Nuggests and their Video on Demand (VoD) CIPT training, without which this book would have been a mystery to me, and I still have the second book to work through for the next exam!

In summary, needs work.

Adequate 11 Dec 2010
Format:Hardcover
Whilst it provides adequate coverage of the 642-446 exam curriculum there are numerous mistakes & the online errata doesn't correct them all. Also quite a few of the explanations are poor or contradict themselves. Given the high pass mark on the Professional series exams, it's best to have another source of information (e.g. CBT Nuggets) to fill in the gaps.
