Biography

Majical Cloudz is centered around Montreal songwriter Devon Welsh, who joined with Matthew Otto to collaboratively produce and perform his songs.

In May 2012, Majical Cloudz released II, an album of Welsh’s vocal melodies largely buried under impressionistic synths, loops, samples, and snippets. The album was followed in December by the Turns Turns Turns EP, an audacious ... Read more in Amazon's Majical Cloudz Store

A pretty good album, possibly a bit over-hyped but with some very strong songs and delicious minimal electronic backdrops. There's a kind of hip but soulful melancholy atmosphere, slow vocal melodies, crescendos, epic ballads that probably would sound right in a big stadium. Yep, something like 'stadium chill-out ballads'.

This is a fine album, with atmospheric tracks, all with prominent vocals floating over slow, minimal synths. Sad, comtemplative lyrics, full of yearning. Reminds of a strange mix of Matthew Dear, Blue Nile, Dead Can Dance (esp the naked baritone over chillswept narrative-soundscapes). Best tracks are bunched in the middle, and played in sequence, goes from strength to strength: Childhood'S end, I do sing for you, Mister, Turns turns turns, Silver rings, Bugs don'T buzz. For 'indie pop', it never rocks out or hits a house pace, and it isn't immediately prepossessing, but ultimately rewards repeated listens and fixes your mood and attention long after the songs end. 4.5 stars (pts off for just pedestrian packaging).

Saw these guys supporting Grimes at heaven last year. Loved them live, turns turns turns is a beautiful song, the album is great. The singer is actually the drummer for Grimes.

Great album 21 May 2013
By PennyKF - Published on Amazon.com
This is a really fantastic album. Very moody and the guy's voice is sharp and haunting. I could listen to it over and over again. Don't know much about the technical aspects of music, but it sounds well produced and the sound mixing is awesome. Highly recommend!

MESMERIZING!!! 6 July 2013

Not your run-of-the-mill alternative rock. Far from uplifting, lyrics are nonetheless profound, e.g., "Bugs Don't Buzz"---seems like a silly title until you get the words. Probably my favorite disk of 2013.
It pays to be on the edge of existence/Just riding the surface 30 Dec. 2013

I love this album.
The simplicity of vocals and minimal electronic intruments are so stripped down that all is left is Devon Welsh raw emotion. Annunciation, flow and inflection so subtle you'll be surprised when the words "if life could be forever one instant/would it be the moment you met me?" makes you to cry. Some tracks are so restrained you hold your breath waiting for it to break, and it never does. Others will become hopeful anthems of triumph.
Enchanting! 11 Sept. 2013

The vocals are hypnotic, the instrumentalism is magical and the lyrics are equal parts philosophical and tongue-in-cheek. This album always inspires me when I listen to it.
A very new sound with an awesome vocal range 6 Sept. 2013

To me it is like a cross between Roxy Music and Depeche Mode but from only two people is incredible. the lyrics really make you think about your own existence.
