Larger than life character!, 15 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: An Imperfect Lady (Paperback)
The central character in this good long read, is a woman ahead of her time. Independant, artistic and sensual, she immediately illicits the readers sympathies and interest. Adeline Grundy is not afraid to follow her instincts and experiences relationships with both genders. This is also a family saga, and all characters are well portrayed and very acceptable. The middle part of the book is a little over long, but the beginning and end are totally readable. You will not be able to put this book down until you find out how the story ends. Will Aveline find happiness in the end? I really enjoyed this book and will now look for more by this author.

JUST RE-READ THIS - IT'S GREAT!!, 5 Oct 2011
This review is from: An Imperfect Lady (Paperback)
Read this when it first came out and loved it, lost that copy and bought another and feel that I should review it to say what a great book it is! Like all of Sarah Harrison's offerings, it is excellent.
Adeline Gundry is the main, well drawn character, being born right at the beginning of the 20th. Century - this is, in fact, really a family story taking you through the various up and downs of the Gundry family and its friends and through the main events of that century.
It is VERY WELL written, very entertaining and is one of those books that you have to keep on reading to find out what happens next - to me that says you have hold of a very good read!
I won't say more to spoil the story, but, suffice it to say, Adeline is a feisty, likeable character and like all of us has some stupendous faults, but also some very likeable traits.
Read it and enjoy!
