Some praise from satisfied thriller readers.

Shell, Lincoln... This was a fast paced story full of suspense and I am just about to buy the next book as I can't wait to see what happens. I would definitely recommend this book!

Knightmare said... I read this book practically in one sitting and then went straight on to read the sequel. It's a fast-paced story with a terrifying villain and a great heroine. I love books with strong female characters and Lorne Simpkins is one of the best I've come across - no matter what's thrown at her, she keeps on fighting. The book has the feel of an English version of 24 with a female Jack Bauer.

D. Thompson said...All in all, an enjoyable thriller and I did immediately download the sequel, so that, in itself, is sufficient recommendation.

Irene said...Was not sure what I expected but loved this book it was fast paced from page one and did not let up, in fact i only downloaded it yesterday lunchtime and could not put it down I stayed up till 12.30 this morning to finish it, the characters were excellent even the bad guy was portrayed in such a way as to send shivers down the spine. Cannot wait for the sequel to see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold on tight. 7 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Right from the onset of this review, I have to confess that I didn't realise that this was the second book in the Lorne Simkins series (I'm reticent to call it a trilogy as the author refers to them as books one, two and three.). I'm normally careful not to read books out of order, but I have to admit, it didn't make any difference, as the book stands well alone.

This book really does grab the reader by the scruff of the neck and hurls them through the plot. Don't expect to take time to draw breath either, as you get drawn into the hero's world as she fights, ever more desperately, against a sadistic (and boy, do I mean sadistic) serial killer, intent upon her destruction.

The book doesn't let up throughout, hurling the reader from scene to scene as the detective relentlessly hunts her quarry through London and the South East.

The author writes with a smooth and powerful imagination enticing the reader to try and guess what will happen next. Cleverly, although the twists and turns are severe, they never feel contrived or outrageous; a hard thing to achieve, with a book as exciting as this one.

I'm happy to say that there were very few typographical errors in this book, a couple of homophonic ones, but overall very well edited.

3.0 out of 5 stars Impeding Justice 23 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Decided to buy this next book as it followed on from the first. Found the story very frustrating at times. Some of the situations were dealt with in a very silly way. I will not be buying the next even though it probably is the final one of this continuing story. I couldn't stand the Unicorn getting away yet again and again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great action novel 4 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lorne is a police officer trying to hunt down a truly evil man, involved in human trafficking, drugs, weapons, terrorism. No matter what the police do, he always seems to be one step ahead of them; and then he kidnaps her daughter and uses the young girl as leverage to torment and humilate Lorne, whilst continuing with his criminal plans.

I found this to be a great story; although I felt that it seemed to take some of the plot from the film "Taken". It has a really great pace to it, and I felt that the story was quite believable throughout. I have seen first hand some of the less pleasant aspects involved in the modern trade in human life, and it can be far worse than is portrayed within this book.

There a few issues with the formatting of the text in the version that I downloaded for my Kindle; words running together, some bad paragaraph separation etc. but this did not detract too much from the book. Of course, this is part of a series; I haven't seen the others, but will probably try to track them down.

A little bit too adult for younger teenagers, but a good read overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another GRIPPING tale. 2 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's been a long time since I've actually lost sleep because it has me in so much suspense I can't put it down. The story is continuous action that fills you with fear, disgust, sadness and a little humour. Shame Pete has gone now though.
I am buying the next book straight away!

Not as good as the first, some interesting twists and turns, think IV had enough of Lorne Simpkins for a while.
