Its hard for hip hop with an political/environmental theme not to sound like a musical lecture. But Impeach the Precedent not only avoids this with well crafted clever lyrics ("Give It Up", "What If we all Stopped Paying Taxes"), but the sound is also varied, not afraid to lean on instrumentals for an intellectual break in amongst deep lyrics - making it an all round amazing album which leaves you wanting to Say Yeah!! Basically if you love funky hip hop from the likes of Ugly Duckling (DJ Einstein features on "Have and Have Nots"), Breakestra (them too), Abs and Fase, DJ Format, Pharcyde, The Rebirth (yep, they're on it) etc. Trust me - you'll LOVE this album.

A BIG shout out has to go to the tune "Give It Up". Comparing our relationship with the planet to a bloke and his girl friend!! GENIUS!!! The sound is perfect, using great earthy samples combined with a raw honest vocal - perfect production! "She's got his back, and he don't even protect her." Could there be a better analogy for our use of petrol?

One downside perhaps is the focus the album has on America - but hey, who doesn't have massive grievances with the corporate idiots running that farce. And they are perhaps the biggest culprits, but we're not much better as a nation are we! The album is endorsed by The Rainforest Action Networks , who provide a great mini-essay inside the cover - and proceeds from this album go DIRECTLY to them. Impeach The Precedent speaks out against the corporation and our ignorance of their destruction affect on our planet in pursuit of their profit - this album helps us reconnect with our own planet, and how important it is to protect her!

I'm preaching to the choir here aren't I?!?! I implore you BUY THIS ALBUM. While your at it, recycle your car and buy a bicycle. Spread the word!!!

Wow...Where have all of these artists been all my life? 27 April 2005
By Will J. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Impeach the Precedent? Wouldn't we love to see that? I know that I would. But this album is about so much than politics; it is about some great music and helping a good cause. You see, the proceeds that are generated from this album are being donated to the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) as to try and save our world through the grassroots efforts, since it seems that mainstream paths do not want to work. Secondly although this album is called a hip hop album it is really just a compilation album full of some great emcees and some amazing soulful artists. This is what hip hop started as: Old school soul mixed with some new flavor. Whether you are looking for some straight up hip hop, soul, funk, or great music this album has it all. Antibalas comes through with some awesome jazzyness (P.A. 2 #11) for you to enjoy and the Poets of Rhythm (funk group) drop a great cut that just flows and is full of life (Flight To St. Vincent #7). This album not only shows that their still are some good musicians in the world but that there are still people in the music industry that care more about the state of the world rather than money for their pocket!

I bought this album for one song, Love by the Globetroddas, but the album is pretty good as a whole. Definitely worth the purchase.
